Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has reportedly agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid, but the Spanish side are thought to be some way off reaching Tottenham Hotspur’s valuation of the player and are not keen to go any higher than their initial bid.
Since joining Tottenham from Southampton in 2020, Hojbjerg has been a key figure in the Lilywhites’ midfield and has now racked up 145 appearances for Spurs in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
The 2022/23 campaign was a particularly fruitful one for the Danish international, who registered 12 goal contributions in 44 appearances for Tottenham (Transfermarkt).
Despite this, Hojbjerg is believed to be one of the players that Ange Postecoglou is open to selling this summer. Apparently, ‘positive developments’ have been made between Spurs and Atletico Madrid (Daily Mail).
Journalist Matteo Moretto recently claimed Tottenham had rejected the La Liga club’s opening offer of €20m (£17.15m) for Hojbjerg.
While the initial bid has been knocked back, it is thought Atletico have already reached an agreement on personal terms with Hojbjerg (The Times). It is said the player is hopeful Spurs will lower their asking price to help the move go ahead (Mundo Deportivo 24/7/23 via Sport Witness).
Spurs and Atletico still yet to agree fee for Hojbjerg
Now, the latest update on the situation comes from journalist Ben Jacobs, who claims there is still some distance in the respective valuations of the Dane between the two clubs, despite him having agreed personal terms with Atleti, however, talks are continuing.
He tweeted: “Atletico Madrid still in talks for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has agreed personal terms. Gulf in valuation, though. Atleti reluctant to pay more than €25m. Spurs open to sell.”

Spurs Web Opinion
I am still very much against the idea of selling Hojbjerg this summer. He is a very effective player who covers so much ground, does the dirty work, and is a fantastic leader, too.
There are plenty of other players we should be focused on selling right now. And, if Harry Kane does leave, we are going to need people like Hojbjerg to stand up and be counted, especially in an inexperienced dressing room short of leaders.
