Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur will only let Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave once they bring a replacement through the door.
Hojbjerg has been a fixture in Tottenham’s starting eleven since joining from Southampton three years ago but it now appears as if the midfielder’s time at the club is about to come to an end.
Football Insider state that the Dane is now ‘closing in’ on a switch to Atletico Madrid, with the La Liga club expected to pay in excess of £25m for the player.
However, the report adds that Tottenham will not green-light the sale before they bring another midfielder through the door.
Spurs want midfield signing before Hojbjerg sale
It is explained that there are fears that the 28-year-old’s departure could leave Ange Postecoglou short in midfield, particularly with Rodrigo Bentancur currently out with a knee injury.
The publication adds that Tottenham had identified Franck Kessie as a potential replacement for Hojbjerg but they would now have to look at other alternatives as the Ivorian is on the verge of signing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

With Ndombele also looking likely to be sold and with Bentancur potentially a month or two away from being fit, it is not surprising to hear that Postecoglou wants the insurance of another midfielder before sanctioning Hojbjerg’s sale.
I would not be surprised if Tottenham turned their attention to James Ward-Prowse, given that he is homegrown, would be relatively inexpensive and has the engine and technical quality to fit into Postecolgou’s system.
