In an update that comes as a potential boost to Tottenham’s pursuit of James Maddison, Football Insider have now revealed that Newcastle United only value the Leicester City star at around £30m.
There have been several positive reports from a Spurs perspective regarding Maddison over the last week or two.
Journalist Alex Crook said on talkSPORT Breakfast (14/06 at 9:50 am) last week that Tottenham are at the front of the queue for Maddison, who prefers a move to North London over a switch to the North East.
This was also backed up by The Northern Echo (Monday, 19 June), who claim the 26-year-old is keen on living in London while the Lilywhites are also willing to offer him a much higher salary than the Magpies are.
The report thus asserted that Spurs are ‘strong favourites’ to land Maddison this summer and added that the player is ‘edging towards’ a move to N17.
Newcastle only value Maddison at around £30m
Football Insider have now provided another reason why Tottenham might have an advantage in the race for the player’s signature, revealing that Newcastle are only willing to pay £30m for the Foxes star.
It is explained that Leicester are holding out for £50m for Maddison while Magpies believe that £30m is a fair valuation for the midfielder since he has just 12 months left on his contract at the King Power Stadium.
Spurs Web Opinion
Newcastle have a much lower operating income than Tottenham, which means that they are restricted by FFP rules from spending as much as we can, which is seemingly why they are reluctant to pay over the top for Maddison.
It looks like things are falling into place for Spurs to potentially get a deal over the line at around £40m-£50m.
