The Daily Mail have revealed that the chat around the England camp is that James Maddison prefers a move to Tottenham Hotspur over Newcastle United.
Maddison started in England’s 4-0 win over Malta last week but was an unused substitute in the Three Lions’ 7-0 demolition of North Macedonia at Old Trafford on Monday.
England camp rumours are good news for Tottenham
According to The Mail, the chat around the camp is that the Leicester City star is keen to make a switch to the Lilywhites over any other interested party.
The publication adds that Tottenham are also interested in Harvey Barnes, but it is explained that the winger’s future might not be resolved until later in the transfer window.
This update comes just a day after The Northern Echo reported that Spurs are ‘strong favourites’ to land Maddison this summer, with the player alleged to be ‘edging towards’ a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The outlet suggested that the 26-year-old prefers to live in London over the North East while Ange Postecoglou’s men are also willing to offer him a higher salary than the Magpies.
Spurs Web Opinion
All indications at the moment are that Tottenham have a huge advantage over Newcastle United in the race for Maddison.
However, I cannot see the Lilywhites paying £50m for the 26-year-old, given that he only has one year left on his contract.
So, unless Leicester lower their demands, the negotiations could potentially drag on for another few weeks.
