Serie A side Juventus are now thought to be interested in signing Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur.

Romero signed for Tottenham on an initial loan deal in the summer of 2021, before making the move from Atalanta permanent last summer.

The Argentine defender has now amassed 64 appearances for Spurs, scoring one goal and contributing one assist (Transfermarkt).

Despite some moments of recklessness leading to a questionable disciplinary record, Romero is widely considered the best defender at Tottenham right now.

The 25-year-old has achieved great things at international level, too. Within the last two years, Romero has won the Copa America and the World Cup with Argentina.

In just 22 appearances for his country (Transfermarkt), Romero has become an important fixture in the Argentina defence.

With new manager Ange Postecoglou set to lead Tottenham into the upcoming Premier League campaign, a piece from The Athletic has waxed lyrical about what Romero could achieve under the Australian coach.

Juventus are interested in Spurs’ Cristian Romero

However, the latest from Argentine journalist Gaston Edul suggests that Italian side Juventus are keen on signing Romero.

Edul tweeted a photo of the player with a caption that simply says: “Juventus are interested in Cristian Cuti Romero.”

Funnily enough, Romero used to be owned by Juventus but never played a game for the Turin giants.

He was signed in 2019 but spent the next two years on loan with Genoa and Atalanta before joining the latter permanently.

There has been no indication that Tottenham would be open to selling the player this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Under no circumstances should we even consider selling Romero.

At a time when we are looking to reinforce our backline, it would be madness to sell our best defender.

We should be building our defence around Romero, so Juventus will have to look elsewhere.
