Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg seemingly had an off-day in Denmark’s over San Marino, with Ekstra Baldet not being too complimentary about his display on Tuesday night.

The Danes are tied on points with Slovenia at the top of Group H in the European Championship qualifiers and were expected to wipe the flour with San Marino, who are the whipping boys of the group, having failed to pick up a single point in their eight outings so far.

However, the clash at Serravalle proved to be a lot tighter than expected, with Alessandro Golinucci equalising for the home side on 61 minutes after Rasmus Hojlund had opened the scoring for Kasper Hjulmand’s men in the first half.

Hojbjerg struggled against low San Marino block

Yussuf Poulsen netted the match-winner in the 70th minute to spare the Danes’ blushes, and Hojbjerg, who played all 90 minutes for the visitors, was one of several players who were well short of his best by the sounds of it.

Ekstra Baldet gave him a two-star rating and wrote about his performance: “The ox in the middle never got going for what he’s good at. Pierre was unfriendly with the ball, tried dribbles that were impossible beforehand, and the runs were too few. But he was one of those who tried something.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This is not ideal for Spurs, given that Hojbjerg is expected to get his first start of the season against Fulham on Monday, with Yves Bissouma suspended for the clash.

Gazzetta dello Sport have revealed that Juventus sent their scouts to Copenhagen to watch Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in action during Denmark’s clash against Kazakhstan over the weekend.

Over the last month or so, various publications have backed Juventus to make a move for Hojbjerg in January, with LondonWorld even claiming a few days ago that the Old Lady are already preparing a bid for the player.

Gazzetta have become the latest outlet to report on Juve’s interest in the Tottenham man, revealing that they sent a scout to watch him in action in Denmark’s 3-1 win on Saturday.

It is revealed that the reason they travelled to Parken rather than to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was that they wanted to watch the midfielder play the full 90 minutes.

Juventus scouts were impressed with Hojbjerg

The report states that the Serie A giants were impressed with what they saw and are ‘fascinated’ by Hojbjerg’s profile, given his experience and flexibility.

However, Gazzetta add that the Spurs star is not the only option on Juve’s radar, with Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Manu Kone, Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra, Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, and Udinese’s Lazar Samardzic also being monitored.

Finally, the outlet adds that Tottenham are not willing to loan out Hojbjerg in January and that they value the former Southampton man at £26m.

Spurs Web Opinion

Hojbjerg would want to leave in search of regular game time while Tottenham will be happy to cash in on him, given that he will have just 18 months left on his contract.

Spurs will be hoping that a bidding war ensues between the likes of Juventus and Atletico Madrid for the midfielder in January so that his price gets pushed up to £30m.

Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet have waxed lyrical about Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after his performance against Kazakhstan, labelling him as the ‘heart’ of Kasper Hjulmand’s side.

Hojbjerg, who was a pillar of Tottenham’s midfield in his first three seasons at the club, has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs, having not made a single Premier League start so far this season.

Ange Postecoglou has primarily used the 28-year-old as an impact substitute on the bench, and unsurprisingly, it has emerged over recent weeks that the midfielder is looking for an exit route from the club in January.

Alasdair Gold said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham podcast last week that he fully expects Hojbjerg to push for a move when the transfer window opens, while it has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Juventus are readying a move for the experienced Spurs star (LondonWorld).

Hojbjerg continues to run the show for Denmark

Despite his lack of game time at Tottenham, the former Southampton man has continued to thrive on the international stage, with the midfielder earning rave reviews for his display in Denmark’s 3-1 win over Kazakhstan.

Ekstra Bladet handed the midfielder a four out of five and wrote about his performance: “You could write it after most international matches.

“Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the heart of the Danish team with his energy and presence. He was above the visitors constantly, delivering both with and without the ball.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is a huge positive for Spurs that Hojbjerg is getting minutes under his belt for his national side and performing well, given that he will likely have to start against Fulham on Monday, with Yves Bissouma suspended for the clash.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg opened the scoring for Denmark as they eased to a 4-0 win against San Marino in the Euro qualifiers clash at Copenhagen on Thursday.

Hojbjerg is yet to start a Premier League game for Spurs this year, but he admitted this week that he and Ange Postecoglou have had clear conversations regarding the path forward and he is ready to showcase his best whenever opportunities come his way (Bold).

Hojbjerg lashes home a goal for Denmark

The midfielder has certainly shown a glimpse of what he can to do his manager by sending Denmark on their way to a thumping win over San Marino.

The Tottenham man smashed a half-volley into the corner of the net when the ball dropped to him at the edge of the box on 26 minutes.

Joakim Maehle then doubled the home side’s lead just two minutes later before Onas Wind put the game beyond San Marino towards the end of the first half. Finally, Yussuf Poulsen came off the bench to put the icing on the cake for the Danes in stoppage time at Parken.

Getting minutes under their belt during the international break would be good for the likes of Hojbjerg, Davies, Perisic, Solomon and co since they have not seen too much competitive action since pre-season.

The 27-year-old had been a consistent presence in the heart of midfield during Antonio Conte’s time in North London.

He will be hoping to continue to be a key player in the latter stages of the season under Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason now that Conte has departed the club.

The Denmark international was the first to comment on Conte’s controversial press conference (Tipsbladet), suggesting the Italian should be more honest with his players.

Now, it’s the turn of the Danish press to be forthright with Hojbjerg, after the national side succumbed to a 3-2 defeat against Kazakhstan on Sunday.

The Danes had led 2-0 before collapsing away from home, and it seems Hojbjerg has become something of a scapegoat for the performance.

Ekstra Bladet gave Hojbjerg a one out of six rating, and commented that the player should perform “much, much better.” They were particularly scathing of his inability to organise the midfield.

Hojbjerg was identified as one of the players to struggle the most by DR.

Meanwhile, Tipsbladet criticised Hojbjerg for being “too poor” on the ball, and also said he “ran away from his responsibility.”

The Tottenham star received a three out of ten rating from Bold and was lamented for “too many mistakes” in the middle of the park as his country folded.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s not often we hear about Hojbjerg getting that kind of heat from the Danish press, as he is usually so consistent for his country.

Let’s hope he shakes that off and returns to his best for the weekend as we return to Premier League action against Everton.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has admitted that he and his Denmark teammates are keen to avenge their showing at last year’s World Cup when they turn out for their country in the upcoming international fixtures.

Being one of the leaders of the Spurs dressing room, Hojbjerg would likely have not taken kindly to Antonio Conte’s accusation on Saturday of all the players at the club being selfish and playing for themselves (Football.London).

In fact, the midfielder was one of the few Tottenham players to talk publicly about the Italian’s comments, hinting that the 53-year-old was not ‘specific’ enough with his criticism for the players to take anything on board and improve (Guardian).

Like most Tottenham stars, Hojbjerg would probably be relieved to move away from the environment at Spurs for a week and link up with the Denmark side, who take on take on Finland and Kazakhstan in UEFA Euro qualifiers.

The Tottenham man admitted that Kasper Hjulmand’s men have a point to prove when they take to the field this week for the first time since their poor showing in Qatar.

Hojbjerg told Ekstra Bladet: “You could call it a desire for revenge to wipe the slate clean.

“I think it’s only good because it means something to you.

“For me, it is very much about showing that we are still good.

“Obviously, the picture painted in Qatar is very different to what we’ve been doing for a long time.

“There are also a lot of new players this time around. That can sometimes help things along. That there may not be so many hangovers from Qatar.”

Spurs Web Opinion

In many ways, the international break came at the perfect time for all the Tottenham players as it allows them some time to perhaps reflect on Conte’s comments rather than having to confront the head coach immediately when the wounds were still raw.

Danish outlet BT have not held back in their criticism of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after Denmark suffered a shock defeat to Australia on Wednesday and crashed out of the World Cup.

Denmark were put forward as potential dark horses by many people ahead of the tournament, on the back of reaching the semi-finals of the European Championship 18 months ago.

They were favourites to qualify from Group D along with France but never really got going in the tournament, ultimately finishing bottom of the table with one point, managing just one goal across their three games.

Their performance against Australia encapsulated their World Cup campaign as the Danes struggled to break down the men from Down Under and looked defensively suspect.

The shock 1-0 defeat has not been well received back in Denmark, with Hojbjerg being blasted for his poor decision-making. BT handed the Tottenham man a rating of 1/6 and questioned whether he was fit enough to take to the field yesterday.

The publication wrote about Hojbjerg: “DBU’s head of communications, Jakob Hoyer, assured everyone on Tuesday that there was nothing wrong in the fact that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, despite promises to the contrary, was absent and was replaced by Jesper Lindstrøm at the press conference.

“But after this unusually poor performance – with so many bad decisions by the otherwise rock-solid midfielder – one can’t help but wonder if something is wrong with him. But what?”

Spurs Web Opinion

On paper, this was a fairly easy group for Denmark and I even fancied them to top it ahead of France, who were missing some key players and had not been in very good form coming into the tournament.

However, the Danes were shocked right from the off and Hojbjerg looked extremely off the pace. Perhaps that has to do with the accumulated fatigue over the first part of the campaign.

The silver lining from a Tottenham perspective is that the 27-year-old will now have a couple of weeks to recharge his batteries ahead of the resumption of the Premier League campaign.

The Danes are the favourites to progress from Group D along with France but they had a disappointing start to the tournament in Qatar as they were held to a draw by Tunisia.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side struggled to create too many clear-cut chances throughout the 90 minutes and Tuesday’s result has now complicated qualification to the knockout stages as they might now need a result against France.

Hojbjerg, much like almost every other Denmark player, put in a relatively quiet display at the Education City Stadium and Danish publication BT have been critical of the Spurs star’s performance.

The publication gave the midfielder a rating of 3/6 and wrote about his performance: “He is the emir of the Danish national team with principles that he never deviates from, but today, like the rest of the team, he was disappointing and did not show the level for which he has been praised so much in recent years. However, his tackle prevented Tunisia from taking the lead with minutes to go before the break.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As we saw during the European Championship, Hojbjerg makes this Denmark side tick and he has to play well if Kasper Hjulmand’s are to progress to the latter stages in Qatar. A defeat against France on Saturday will now put the Danes under severe pressure, especially if Tunisia beat Australia.

The 2022 World Cup kicks off in Qatar this Sunday, and while the tournament has not been without its issues, there will still be a great demand to see our favourite players in action through the course of the competition.

Spurs have a total of 12 players out in Qatar representing their countries, with the likes of Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane, and Heung-min Son set to captain France, England, and South Korea respectively.

Kane will be joined by Eric Dier on England duty, while fellow defender Cristian Romero will represent Argentina. Ivan Perisic will turn out once again for Croatia, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is in Qatar with Denmark, and Rodrigo Bentancur will be hoping to carry on his great form with Uruguay.

Both Ben Davies and Joe Rodon, currently on loan at French side Rennes, will represent Wales at their first World Cup since 1958. Elsewhere, Richarlison will lead the line for Brazil, and youngster Pape Matar Sarr will be looking to make an impact with Senegal.

The Dane has arguably been one of Spurs’ most consistent performers this campaign, along with Harry Kane and his midfield partner Rodrigo Bentancur.

The former Southampton man has also been a vital cog in Denmark’s midfield over the last few years and will have to be at his best if the Danes are to progress deep into the tournament.

Hojbjerg was one of the standout players for Kasper Hjulmand’s side in the last European Championship as the Scandinavian nation made it all the way until the semi-finals, and Braithwaite expects the Spurs star to shine again in Qatar.

The forward told Espanyol’s official channel (as relayed by InsideFutbol): “Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will surprise [many].”

Spurs Web Opinion

Hojbjerg has been one of Denmark’s most important players over the last three or four years and, in many ways, he makes Hjulmand’s men tick. The Danes are huge favourites to qualify for the knockout stages but they may come up against Argentina in the round of 16, given how the groups are structured.

Tottenham hero Jurgen Klinsmann has said that he would consider an offer to be Denmark’s next head coach.

Klinsmann is revered by the Tottenham fan base, having spent two spells at the North London club as a player.

Since retiring from the game, the 58-year-old has managed the German national team as well as Bayern Munich but he has been out of work since leaving Hertha Berlin in 2020.

During the summer of 2021, when Spurs were looking for a new head coach to replace Jose Mourinho, Klinsmann was mooted for the role and even admitted at the that time that he was open to returning as the club still holds a special place in his heart (ESPN).

Tottenham eventually decided to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo that summer but the Portuguese coach lasted just four months in the job before being replaced by Antonio Conte.

Klinsmann has now suggested that he is open to returning to international management, stating that he is ‘open-minded’ about the idea of replacing Kasper Hjulmand at the helm of the Danish national team.

When asked about the Denmark job, the former Spurs man told Bold: “You can never reject anything in advance. You always have to keep an open mind and listen to people, and then you make a decision if you get the chance.

“Right now I’m looking forward to the WC in Qatar, and then we’ll have to see what happens afterwards.

“Of course, I would like to go back and be a coach after the World Cup finals, now that the covid pandemic is also over. So I have to see if a door or two opens when the World Cup is over.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have a major soft spot for Denmark, given that they have Hojbjerg and Eriksen in their ranks and also down to the fight they showed during the last European Championship to get to the semifinal. If Klinsmann does become their head coach, that will be one more big reason to root for the Danes in major tournaments.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been given a perfect score by the Danish press for his performance against France on Sunday.

Hojbjerg is a player who tends to divide opinion among the Tottenham fan base, which was evident by the reaction on social media when Real Madrid were credited with an interest in the midfielder during the summer.

However, the Dane’s performances have generally been on an upward trajectory over the calendar year, particularly since he has been partnered with Rodrigo Bentancur following the Uruguayan’s arrival in January.

Antonio Conte spoke in glowing terms about the 27-year-old last month, insisting that he remains ‘a really really important player’ for Spurs (Football.London).

The former Southampton man has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for September on the back of his recent performances.

It looks like Hojbjerg has taken his club form into the international scene, with the Danish publication BT raving about the Spurs star’s display during Denmark’s 2-0 win over France on Sunday.

The publication gave the midfielder a rating of 6/6 and wrote about his performance: “The general has French ancestry, but a Danish heart. Red and white are pumping and pumping on that track.

“Any boss would love to have a worker like Pierre-Emile Højbjerg on the team. With that effort, he could have built all the World Cup stadiums in Qatar in record time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Some Spurs fans tend to focus on the things Hojbjerg does not possess rather than on the myriad of qualities which he brings to the side.

There is no doubt that he is one of the leaders for Tottenham, and I would argue that it takes a player with the Dane’s engine, quality and tactical understanding to play in Conte’s two-man midfield.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg got one over on his Tottenham teammate and captain this week as Denmark defeated Hugo Lloris’s France in the Nation’s League.

Denmark came from behind to defeat theWorld Cup champions 2-1 away from home, with Hojbjerg playing an important role in Andreas Cornelius’ equaliser.

The Spurs midfielder picked the ball up in the final third before clipping a delightful through ball for his teammate to tap home on the volley. Cornelius then made it 2-1 minutes after Hugo Lloris denied Christian Eriksen a winner from point blanc range.

Check out Hojbjerg’s assist below:

Spurs Web Opinion:

Hojbjerg remains incredibly underrated by fans, including Tottenham’s own. His ability on the ball really shines through in the Denmark system and hopefully we will see more of that next season under Conte if he plays in a two or a three.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been speaking ahead of Tottenham’s game against Christian Eriksen’s Brentford and claims Spurs will be judged on how they perform, regardless of the media focus in the build-up.

The Danish international has forged an impressive partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur in the heart of the Lilywhite midfield of late, especially in the absence of Oliver Skipp.

Tottenham currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, ahead of North London rivals, Arsenal on goal difference with six games to go.

Under Antonio Conte, Spurs have transformed from mid-table mediocrity into the front runners for the Champions League final spot, something Hojbjerg does not shy away from.

He told Sky Sports: “There is no hiding from the top-four race, in the end, there are three or four teams in the race – who wants it? There is no hiding.

“We can all sit and talk as much as we want but it’s about getting the points on the pitch, to show the consistency, the quality, the desire, to make sure the points end up in your pocket and the achievement comes in your favour.

“It’s difficult for me to sit here and talk because the target is very clear. It’s important our actions speak much louder than words.

“There are many great teams in the race, in the Premier League, which is why it’s an honour and a great challenge to play in the Premier League. But I trust my team a lot and I am sure we have the quality to achieve this.

“That doesn’t mean we will automatically do it. We will have to suffer, to fight, to come through this challenge, but I believe we can do it.”

This no-nonsense attitude will hopefully resonate through the squad and allow them to keep the hype in the back of their minds and focus on each game as it comes.

SpursWeb Opinion

Hojbjerg has a great mentality and that has been clear since the Mourinho days. The image of him and his boss at the time screaming at each other in delight after a win at the Etihad will live long in the memory.

The Dane is exactly right to want to focus on the job at hand and put it all out there on the pitch. Some media outlets rarely paint Spurs in a favourable light, seeing them as a selling club and nothing more, as made clear by coverage of Harry Kane’s transfer saga last summer, so it is likely media hype is being ignored, at least by those in N17.

The Tottenham stars set to travel to the World Cup in Qatar later this year have learned their group stage opponents after the draw was made on Friday.

There are certainly some big games to watch out for from a Tottenham perspective, with several Spurs stars set to go up against each other in the group stage.

Hugo Lloris and France will begin their defence of the World Cup in a group containing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s Denmark, with the French being placed into Group D along with the Danes, Tunisia and either UAE, Australia or Peru.

Harry Kane’s England have been placed in Group B, where they could face Ben Davies’ and Joe Rodon’s Wales, Scotland or Ukraine.

Eric Dier, who has 45 England caps to his name, will also be hoping to make the Three Lions squad for Qatar. Cameron Carter-Vickers, who remains eligible for the USA, are also in England’s group.

Pape Matar Sarr could go up against Steven Bergwijn when Senegal and the Netherlands meet in Group A, while Son Heung-min’s South Korea will come up against Rodrigo Bentancur’s Uruguay in Group H.

Cristian Romero and Giovani Co Celso could also come up against some familiar faces in Qatar as Argentina are in Group C along with Spain, for whom Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilon would be hoping to play.

Emerson Royal would be aiming to make the Brazil squad while Lucas Moura might also be hoping for an unlikely recall to the Selecao set-up.

Here are the groups for the 2022 World Cup:

Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal, Netherlands.
Group B: England, Iran, USA, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine.
Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland.
Group D: France, UAE/Australia/Peru, Denmark, Tunisia.
Group E: Spain, Costa Rica/New Zealand, Germany, Japan.
Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia.
Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon.
Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea.

Spurs Web Opinion

There are some tasty encounters to look forward to from a Spurs perspective and I am keen to see Wales qualify, not only so that we can see the likes of Kane and Dier go up against Bale, Davies and Rodon, but also because of the spirit and togetherness that Robert Page’s men play with, particularly in major tournaments.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has taken to social media to express his delight at Christian Eriksen finding the back of the net on his return to the Denmark side.

Less than 12 months after suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash against Finland, Eriksen has resumed his professional career in the most physically demanding league in world football.

The 30-year-old has made three appearances for Brentford since signing a six-month contract with Thomas Franck’s side in January (Tranfermarkt).

The former Spurs man was recalled to the Denmark squad this week and he made an instant impact when he came on as a substitute against Holland yesterday, striking a typically arrowed shot into the top corner just a couple of minutes after his introduction following the half time break.

The Dutch eventually went on to win the match 4-2, with Steven Bergwijn bagging a brace either side of the interval.

However, Eriksen will certainly remember the game fondly despite ending up on the losing side.

Here’s how Hojbjerg reacted to the Dane’s fairytale return:

Spurs Web Opinion

In his performances for Brentford as well as in the cameo off the bench for Denmark yesterday evening, Eriksen has shown that he still very much retains the technical quality and vision that made him one of the best attacking midfielders in the world during his time at Spurs.

If he keeps producing the same level of performances, one would expect a whole host of clubs to be after the 30-year-old’s signature in the summer.

Antonio Conte revealed he was happy to see Christian Eriksen back in the Denmark squad today (BBC), his first inclusion since his cardiac arrest at EURO 2020.

The Danish midfielder has now appeared three times for Brentford in the Premier League, starting the last two fixtures and already adding goal contributions.

The former Spurs star played 90 minutes against Norwich before recording his first Brentford assist against Burnley, a pin-point left-footed cross for Ivan Toney (TransferMarkt).

Eriksen not only has a history with Tottenham and the Premier League, but also with Conte himself as they worked together at Inter Milan during the historic Scudetto win last season.

In fact, Conte even hinted in a press conference this year that he would be open to an Eriksen return at Tottenham (Athletic).

The Spurs boss claimed that Eriksen is an important player and watching him back out on the pitch these past two weeks was ‘special’ for Conte.

He said (Football London): “I’m happy for Christian.

“To see him again on the pitch, to play from the start, to play two games in a row. To play well with Brentford, it was special for me.

“He is an important player but also we’re talking about a great person. He and his family deserve to live now in a normal situation.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

If Eriksen gets back to full fitness and continues to show his quality in the Premier League with Brentford, I see no reason why Spurs shouldn’t snap him up on a free at the end of the season. Tottenham lack enough of those creative players in the squad at the moment.

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been ruled out of Denmark’s World Cup Qualifier against Scotland this evening with an injury.

Hojbjerg has started alongside Oliver Skipp in the middle of the park in Antonio Conte’s first two games in charge of Tottenham, with the Italian opting to line up in a 3-4-3.

Conte has to change his starting eleven for Spurs’ clash against Leeds United on Sunday as Skipp is suspended for the match after being booked at Goodison Park.

The 52-year-old now also faces the prospect of being without Hojbjerg as well after it emerged that the midfielder has not recovered from his injury in time for the clash against the Scotts.

Hojbjerg missed Denmark’s clash against the Faroe Islands last week but the Danish FA suggested at the time that the Spurs man was expected to play a part against Scotland.

However, Gold has now confirmed that the 26-year-old will also miss this evening’s clash too as he continues to recover from his injury.

The journalist revealed during a Q&A segment on Football.London that Hojbjerg picked up the injury as a result of the tackle from Mason Holgate that saw the Toffees defender being sent off last Sunday.

Gold also added that Denmark’s decision not to use the 26-year-old against Scotland could also be precautionary as Kasper Hjulmand’s have already qualified for the World Cup.

Spurs Web Opinion

Let us hope that the decision from Denmark to not use him against Scotland is precautionary. If both Hojbjerg and Skipp are out, that will give Conte a huge headache for the clash against Leeds as none of our other midfielders are defensively reliable.

If Hojbjerg is not available, the Italian might have no choice but to potentially play Winks and Ndombele in the middle unless he decides to do something drastic and potentially play Dier or Romero there.

Former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen is set to have a crucial medical examination in Denmark next month which will determine whether he can make a return to football, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Inter Milan playmaker collapsed during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener in Copenhagen against Finland, which was caused by a cardiac arrest.

The 29-year-old was given life-saving CPR treatment on the field of play which kept him alive before he was transported to hospital in the Danish capital.

Eriksen has since undergone operations to fit an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) which monitors and regulates his heartbeat, but there is a shadow cast over his career and whether he can make a return to play again.

Italian law prevents athletes from taking part in sporting activities if they have defects or abnormalities with their heart, which plunges Eriksen’s future into doubt.

It has been previously reported that Eriksen would need to have his ICD removed for it to be deemed safe for him to return.

Gazzetta dello Sport report the Inter man is set to undergo checks next month in Odense to see whether that can happen ahead of any potential return to training.

Eriksen made a visit to the Nerazzurri’s training ground last month, where the club’s medical team said he was in ‘excellent physical and mental condition’.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a situation where Eriksen’s health will be examined very carefully by doctors in Denmark and at Inter.

There needs to be a lot of care and time while the checks are taken, as this is a very delicate scenario to be in – especially for an athlete at the peak of his sporting career.

It would be amazing to see Eriksen make a return as he is such an amazing player to watch, but ultimately the medical experts will have to deem it safe to do so first.

Former Denmark boss Age Hareide has lavished praise on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, admitting the Tottenham midfielder has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years.

Hojbjerg did not take long to win the Spurs fans over following his move from Southampton last summer, quickly becoming one of the leaders in the current Tottenham side.

While the 26-year-old played a disciplined role at the base of the Spurs midfield last season, he was able to show another side to his game for Denmark during this summer’s Europen Championships as he finished the tournament with three assists.

Hojbjerg continued where he left off in the Euros during the international break, putting in two typically composed and industrious displays when helping the Danes to overcome both Scotland and Israel.

While the Spurs star has now become an indispensable part of Kasper Hjulmand’s side, he struggled to get game time under his predecessor, Hareide, who did not award Hojbjerg a single cap from 2016 to 2018.

However, the former Denmark boss has admitted that Hojbjerg has improved considerably since his time in charge of the national side.

He told the print edition of Ekstra Bladet (as relayed by Sport Witness): “Pierre plays with big heart and immense passion.

“I think he has also developed his personality very significantly.

“I am particularly pleased to see how much Pierre is concerned that we must constantly improve in all possible areas.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have to admit that I had my doubts about Hojbjerg after his form dropped off considerably in the final few months of the campaign. However, in hindsight, I believe that it was likely down to fatigue.

The 26-year-old has displayed in the first three games of the season under Nuno, just as he did at the Euros, that he is far more than just a destroyer in midfield, being capable of making good use of the ball.
