Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has today revealed that he wants to sign no less than four new players before the closure of the transfer window at the end of the month.

Despite the seemingly frantic nature of this Summer’s transfer window, Spurs are the only Premier League side yet to spend a penny on reinforcements.

After mounting pressure from critics and fans alike, many members of the Spurs camp have been forced to defend the club’s shrewd transfer policy in recent weeks.

However, as it was teased earlier in the week, Spurs seem to be set for a late flurry of signings with reports suggesting Tottenham might be about to shell-out some £40 million on Colombian defender Davinson Sanchez, which would be a new record for the club.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with Chelsea, the Argentine announced that he’s working on bring four transfer targets to the club, but refused to discuss rumours concerning Sanchez’s imminent arrival. He said:

“I want four players if it’s possible, but it’s not easy. We need time to work. I cannot speak about him [Sanchez] because he’s not our player.”

“We expect to sign some players before the end of the transfer window. That is our aim — to try to improve our squad, to try to bring new faces, new energy to the team. It will be a long season.”

Recently, Tottenham have been linked with Everton’s Ross Barkley and Celta Vigo’s Pape Cheikh Diop, while SkySources report that Spurs are still in the market for a young goalkeeper and full-back.

This weekend, Spurs will play their first ever Premier League match at the national stadium against holding champions Chelsea after winning their opening fixture at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park 2-0.

Turning his attention to Sunday’s London derby against arch-rivals Chelsea, Pochettino went on to explain that Wembley must not be used as a scape-goat for poor performances this season.

“Wembley is not a problem,” He added. “We are the problem if we don’t play well and don’t win, like last season. If we are not capable of winning at Wembley it’s not because of Wembley, it’s because of us.”

“It’s the most exciting place to play, Wembley. It’s where football was born. For me, in Argentina or when I was in Spain, one day to be sitting at Wembley was a big dream.”

“Now I have the possibility to play every two weeks, or maybe sometimes every week or three games in one week, and it’s a problem, Wembley?”

“I think it was a perfect excuse sometimes for everyone. Now it is not an excuse. Now we need to give our best and be sure we’re ready. I think the team is ready.”

Tottenham will be without the injured Erik Lamela, Danny Rose and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou for the match, while Kieran Trippier will be assessed on Saturday, whereas Chelsea face a number of potential absentees in Eden Hazard, Pedro and Tiemoue Bakayoko, as well as the suspended Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas.

Do you think Wembley will be an issue for us on Sunday? And which four would you want Poch to bring in?
