Tottenham’s two young midfield talents Dele Alli and Harry Winks have targeted Chelsea for revenge tomorrow, as the two London rivals lock horns again in Sunday’s Wembley Premier League debut appearance.
The national stadium is Tottenham’s temporary home this season and their opening home fixture sees Spurs square off with arch-rivals Chelsea once more after last season’s FA Cup semi-final clash, which Spurs lost 4-2 to the Blues.
In an interview uploaded to the Tottenham Hotspur official club website, Dele Alli and Harry Winks declared that tomorrow they can avenge the semi-final heart-break at the very same stadium it happened.
Dele, who opened our scoring for the season on the hour mark at St James’ Park last weekend, stated that the youthful Spurs side already has a ‘history’ with Chelsea and that he personally is relishing the opportunity to right a few wrongs.
“Obviously every game is important and every game means a lot to the players and the fans. But there’s no hiding how big Sunday’s match is to all of us.”
“We’ve got some history with Chelsea over the last couple of years and we’re going out there looking to win the game.”
Tottenham’s title charge in the 2015-16 Premier League season was ended at Stamford Bridge in a hot-headed 2-2 draw, in which the final whistle saw a mass brawl break out on the touchline.
Since then, Chelsea won the league at Tottenham’s expense and then knocked Spurs out of the FA Cup in that 4-2 defeat in April, which has only spurred Dele on to seek his vengeance.
“Obviously, we were disappointed with the FA Cup semi-final against them at Wembley,” He added. “It was another cracking game, a real battle and we played very well on the day, but Chelsea just had the edge.”
“I’m sure it’s going to be another great game this time.”
Tottenham’s comfortable 2-0 victory away to Newcastle was a polar opposite to Chelsea’s opening fixture, in which a 9-man Blues side were humiliated by Burnley at Stamford Bridge, with the hosts 3-0 down at half time and eventually losing 3-2.
21 year old breakthrough youngster Harry Winks believes that tomorrow’s game is ‘winnable’ and has also revealed that he’s confident the side can go on to secure all 3 points against their rivals.
“I think we’ve got to get a positive result after the semi-final last season,” He said. “Any derby, any local rivalry is a game that we all want to win.”
“You’ve got to give Chelsea respect in the sense that they’re champions, they’ve got a good team and good players, but I think it’s important that we focus on ourselves really.”
“We’ve got great players and we’ve got a good team so we look at it as a winnable game. We want to win it and we’re capable of doing that.”
