Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has asserted that Spurs are ready for the challenge of relocating to Wembley for a full season, as well as maintaining that new signings are on their way.
Tottenham played European matches at Wembley last season, due to a reduced capacity at White Hart Lane as construction work began taking place for the new stadium which is set to be completed by the start of the 2018-19 season.
However, initial excitement quickly faded as the team were unable to carry their domestic form into matches at the national stadium, resulting in just 1 win in 5 competitive fixtures at Wembley last season.
Now that Spurs are making the move to Wembley for a full season, fans and pundits alike have suggested that Tottenham’s title aspirations will suffer as a consequence.
Despite this, Mauricio Pochettino has insisted Spurs are ready for the challenge of making Wembley their temporary home, following an impressive 2-0 win over Champions League runners up Juventus at the national stadium on Saturday.
Speaking at SkySports’ PremierLeague launch event, Pochettino explained:
“We are ready and we are excited. We will try to win the Premier League.”
“It is another challenge to make Wembley our home, but we are very positive about next season.”
“Sometimes last season it was an easy excuse – because it is Wembley and we cannot play the same way as we did at White Hart Lane. Now, everyone knows, we have to go to Wembley and play. No excuses. It is a massive change in our minds.”
“Wembley is fantastic, and could be magic for us. That is the challenge for us.”
