Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that Spurs are all set for a late splurge in the transfer market, as the club is yet to announce a new signing this Summer.
The current transfer window has seen England’s top clubs more frantic than ever with a number of clubs having broken their record transfer fees already this Summer.
However, Tottenham are yet to spend a single penny on reinforcements, though they have been busy seeing players out the exit door, with Clinton N’Jie, Frederico Fazio and Kyle Walker all confirmed departures from the club.
In light of recent criticisms and increasing pressure to spend, Mauricio Pochettino has had to defend the club’s shrew transfer policy numerous times over the last few weeks.
While attending SkySports’ PremierLeague launch event, the Argentine once again reiterated Tottenham’s stance on the transfer market:
“We have a very clear philosophy,” He said. “It is so difficult when you have a good team and want to stick to this philosophy.”
“We need players that can challenge our starting XI. We will find the right players to challenge, players who believe in themselves and think ‘Okay, I can challenge Dele Alli, I can challenge Harry Kane.
“We are working hard to deliver and try to add the strength we need to fight in four competitions next season.”
Pochettino then went on to imply that Tottenham may be set for a late spending spree, as the popular manager gave a nod towards some of Spurs’ previous transfer dealings.
“We need to bring some new energy and strengthen our squad,” He added. “Everyone knows that – our chairman, our chief scout. If you look at the history of Tottenham in the last few years, we always spend at the end of the window.”
“The market is a little bit crazy but you cannot stop the evolution of football. It is not easy to improve, but we will find the right players to challenge.”
“We are working hard and I am sure we will add some players by the end of the transfer window.”
Who do you expect Tottenham will bring in by the end of the window? Or at least, who do you think Spurs should bring in?
