Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Kieran Trippier will miss their opening Premier League game of the season away to Newcastle United on Sunday due to an ankle ligament injury sustained in the 2-0 pre-season Spurs win over Juventus at Wembley last week.
Although Tottenham’s pre-season ended on a high note with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Champions League runners-up and Italian giants Juventus, Kieran Trippier’s injury was a cause for concern given the fact that Kyle Walker had recently been sold for some £50 million.
Trippier was subbed off just minutes into the game and eventually left the national stadium on crutches while wearing a protective boot and initial fears suggested that the former burnley right-back could miss up to a month of football.
However, announcements from the club’s official social media accounts declared that scans have revealed the 26 year old is likely to miss roughly two weeks of the new season with minor ligament damage.

Trippier will miss out alongside long term absentees Danny Rose and Erik Lamela, while 2016 Summer signing Georges-Kevin N’Koudou also sits out due to the minor foot injury that kept him out of Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Juventus last week.
Trippier was Mauricio Pochettino’s only recognised right-back, so Spurs will therefore be expected to shuffle the pack around against Newcastle on Sunday.
Youngster and England Under 20s World Cup winner Kyle Walker-Peters is unlikely to start, as the 20 year old would is seemingly not ready to be introduced to football at this level.
It is much more plausible that Eric Dier will fill in as a temporary right-back, or that Pochettino will test out Moussa Sissoko at a wing-back against his former club.
Trippier now faces a tough race against the clock to be fit in time for Tottenham’s Wembley date with Chelsea in 9 days.
