Louis Saha refuses to rule out Tottenham from potentially putting together a title tilt this season, remarking that the Lilywhites look really hard to defend against.

Before the start of the season, hardly anyone gave Spurs a chance to compete for Champions League qualification, particularly given that the club had lost their record goalscorer, Harry Kane.

In fact, some pundits such as Gabby Agbonlahor (Football Insider) and Paul Merson (Sky Sports) even suggested that Tottenham would struggle to finish in the top half of the table.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men have silenced doubters with their impressive start to the season, playing an exciting brand of football and scoring goals for fun.

Saha believes that there is no reason why Spurs cannot sustain their current form and challenge the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal this season.

When asked if Postecoglou could be the man who helps the club break their extended trophy drought, the former Man Utd striker told Betfred: “Yes, because everything’s possible. They have a big squad, they’re playing very well and as we’ve seen Leicester City win the Premier League, I’m not going to say that Tottenham Hotspur can’t win the Premier League title this season.

“Tottenham have a lot of quality players and their manager is new to English football, but it’s brilliant to see that he’s managed in various other countries prior to Spurs. I hope that Tottenham can be consistent this season and push Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and all the rest.”

Tottenham will face their big title tests very soon

Saha went on to suggest that we will get a real idea of how good Spurs are when they face sterner tests over the coming weeks.

He continued: “Tottenham needs to be wary because we’ve seen them start the season well before and then they’ve gone off the boil. We will get the real answers of just how good this current Tottenham team is when we get deeper into the fixture list.

“Spurs look as if they’ve found the right balance in their defence, their midfield has the strength that it was once missing and there’s so much speed up top. They look really hard to defend against. Ange Postecoglou has brought a clear identity to Tottenham and that’s something they’ve needed for a long time. It’s brilliant to see.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Not many people gave Arsenal a chance of finishing in the top four before the start of last season but the Gunners surprised people by putting together a title challenge.

So, there is no reason to think Spurs cannot do the same this season. Having said that, it would be unfair to put that kind of pressure on Postecoglou and make him a victim of his own early success.

I believe that a top-five finish (which could be enough for CL qualification this season) will be a successful season for Spurs, given how abject we were in the second half of last campaign.
