Louis Saha has said that Tottenham Hotspur are now playing the best football across the entire Premier League but expressed doubts over whether they can challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

It is fair to say that most opposition fans and pundits have been waiting for Spurs’ wheels to come off over the last few weeks but there is no sign of that happening at the moment.

Ange Postecoglou’s men now sit five points clear at the top of the table, which has led to conversations over the last few days about whether they can potentially sustain this and manage a title tilt this season.

The general consensus over the last few days from pundits appears to be that Tottenham simply do not have the squad depth to keep up with the likes of Man City and Arsenal for the entire season (talkSPORT).

That is an assertion that Saha also agrees with but the Frenchman admitted that the energy that the Lilywhites are now playing with is a level above what we are seeing from other sides in the division.

Tottenham are leading the way, but how long for?

The former Man Utd and Spurs striker told Paddy Power: “Tottenham have made a great start, but we’ve seen this with previous Tottenham teams over the years and it also happened to Arsenal last year.

“There’s a different type of hurdle that these teams need to get through and it’s the toughest hurdle of all. Any team can start very well but sustaining it and getting over the finish line is the hard part.

“From what I’ve seen from the Tottenham managers and the players so far, it seems like they have an energy that’s going to be really hard to challenge.

“They are a level above the rest of the League at the moment and that comes from a few key players. I still doubt that they’ll come close to Manchester City’s strength, experience and ability to win really scrappy games.

“The manager gives the players confidence, especially the midfielders – it’s amazing how they dominate almost every team they come up against. I don’t know whether they can do what Arsenal failed to do last year and really grind it out.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is too early to even be talking about Spurs potentially being in the title race as we are only a quarter of the way through the season.

The media will have those conversations as they need to fill column inches and air time but Postecoglou will want his players to focus on one game at a time rather than looking towards any potential finishing line.

Louis Saha has said that Tottenham Hotspur should be taken seriously as potential title contenders, given the performances they have delivered so far this season.

Hardly anyone would have expected the Lilywhites to go into the October international break sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League but that is exactly what Ange Postecoglou’s men have managed, having won six and drawn two of their first eight games.

Unlike his predecessor Antonio Conte, Postecoglou has refused to put any limitations on what Tottenham could achieve this season, with the Australian even asking the fans to get carried away and dream big (Optus Sport).

Several pundits, including the likes of Gary Neville (on his Sky Sports podcast), have insisted that Spurs do not have the squad depth to sustain a title challenge and that they will eventually fall away.

However, Saha believes that Tottenham should be taken seriously since they are winning games even when things are not going their way.

Are Tottenham Premier League title contenders?

The former Man Utd and Spurs striker said on King Casino Bonus: “From what I’ve seen, I’d say Tottenham are definitely contenders for the Premier League title.

“The players are clicking, and you can see they have the quality and physicality to compete. They don’t overthink things and they know exactly where to be, when to pass, and when to run.

“They’re also starting to figure out what to do when things aren’t going well – something that’s key when you’re trying to go all the way. Everybody knows how the Premier League is a marathon, though, and international breaks can disrupt momentum.”

“Players can get injured or lose form, and that can massively affect any team. I hope Tottenham remain consistent, though! I have no problem with them winning a trophy, even though I support Man United.

“I always look at the team who deserves the title more, and you can clearly see that there’s a new dynamic at Tottenham. They’re faster, more physical, and they’re starting to dominate games. They’ve been very impressive.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The overwhelming majority of Spurs fans clearly do not think we are in a title race.

It is the media themselves who are building up this narrative and when we fail to win the title, they will suggest that we ‘bottled it’ even though none of the pundits gave us any chance of finishing in the top four this season.

Louis Saha has said that Richarlison and Son Heung-min do not look like they can play together and urged Tottenham to snap up Ivan Toney in January.

Richarlison started the season as the number nine but the Brazilian failed to find the back of the net in the first few games of the campaign.

That led to Ange Postecoglou moving Son to a central role and the decision has paid off so far, with the Spurs captain scoring six times in the four matches that he has played centrally.

Richarlison has also impressed over recent weeks, with two goals and an assist to his name in the last three league games.

Curiously, Postecoglou decided to start the 26-year-old on the left and play the South Korean through the middle against Liverpool, and the pair combined well for Tottenham’s opener.

Meanwhile, reports over the last few weeks have suggested that Spurs could battle it out with Arsenal and Chelsea for Toney’s signature in the January transfer window (Daily Express).

Could Ivan Toney solve Tottenham’s problems?

Saha believes that the Brentford star has all the attributes to be successful at a club like Tottenham.

When asked about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Toney, the Frenchman told Betfred: “Ivan can adapt to any team. He’s mentally very strong, so I’m confident that he will make the right decision for himself.

“He can play in any team because of how strong and technically gifted he is. Ivan’s also very mobile and has the right formula you need to play as a striker for any club.

“Manchester United certainly need more options up front as all the top clubs have various options to choose from. Tottenham also definitely need another striker because the combination between Son Heung-min and Richarlison isn’t working too well at present, so that’s another possible move for Ivan.

“All we know is that a lot of teams will be interested in signing him in January and I’m sure he would be a key player at a big club rather than just being another member of the squad.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am certain that Tottenham will not compete for Toney’s signature in January. Postecoglou appears happy with Son and Richarlison as his options upfront for the time being, which is why I do not expect Spurs to enter the market for a centre-forward until next summer.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Louis Saha has said he would not be surprised to see the club win the Premier League title this season, but admits it will likely be either Manchester City or Liverpool who come out on top.

Tottenham have got off to a magnificent start to the new campaign under Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites, along with Arsenal, are still unbeaten after seven games, with five wins and two draws putting them second in the table.

Postecoglou’s exciting brand of football has fans feeling hopeful once more. And, it is getting the best out of the players, too.

Heung-min Son is firing on all cylinders and relishing the added responsibility of being the captain. James Maddison is proving to be a perfect acquisition in midfield, while Yves Bissouma is back at the top of his game, too.

It is still early in the season, but Spurs are now being mentioned in the same breath as Manchester City as potential winners of the Premier League this year.

Spurs have to believe they can win the title

For Louis Saha, Tottenham lifting the trophy is a distinct possibility, but he thinks it will take a lot to stop City or Liverpool.

He told BetFred: “I’ve said before, you’ve seen teams win the title when they’ve not been expected to. Leicester City are the best example of this. I’m not necessarily saying that if Tottenham won the title it would be a surprise because any team of their quality could win it.

“The Premier League is the most difficult league in the world, so regardless of whether you’re on a ten-game unbeaten run or not, all it takes is one key player to be out of form or be injured for the season to destabilise them.

“I hope that doesn’t happen for Tottenham because I’ve been so impressed with the intensity they play with and I’ve been very impressed by the performances of James Maddison.

“They have the right formula at this moment in time and there’s a belief that they can win the Premier League this campaign, however the season is a marathon and you need to have the consistency, the stamina and the arrogance to know that you can beat any team that gets in your way.

“Arsenal were brilliant last season but at the end of the day, there’s a different component that you need to hold out in the title race and at the moment, Manchester City and Liverpool have that in their DNA and will be the two main contenders to win the Premier League title this season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While we have started the season in brilliant shape, we still have 31 games to play and many months of football to get through. Injuries could really harm us, but if we can get to January in a strong position, we have a good shout of being there or thereabouts.

Louis Saha refuses to rule out Tottenham from potentially putting together a title tilt this season, remarking that the Lilywhites look really hard to defend against.

Before the start of the season, hardly anyone gave Spurs a chance to compete for Champions League qualification, particularly given that the club had lost their record goalscorer, Harry Kane.

In fact, some pundits such as Gabby Agbonlahor (Football Insider) and Paul Merson (Sky Sports) even suggested that Tottenham would struggle to finish in the top half of the table.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men have silenced doubters with their impressive start to the season, playing an exciting brand of football and scoring goals for fun.

Saha believes that there is no reason why Spurs cannot sustain their current form and challenge the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal this season.

When asked if Postecoglou could be the man who helps the club break their extended trophy drought, the former Man Utd striker told Betfred: “Yes, because everything’s possible. They have a big squad, they’re playing very well and as we’ve seen Leicester City win the Premier League, I’m not going to say that Tottenham Hotspur can’t win the Premier League title this season.

“Tottenham have a lot of quality players and their manager is new to English football, but it’s brilliant to see that he’s managed in various other countries prior to Spurs. I hope that Tottenham can be consistent this season and push Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and all the rest.”

Tottenham will face their big title tests very soon

Saha went on to suggest that we will get a real idea of how good Spurs are when they face sterner tests over the coming weeks.

He continued: “Tottenham needs to be wary because we’ve seen them start the season well before and then they’ve gone off the boil. We will get the real answers of just how good this current Tottenham team is when we get deeper into the fixture list.

“Spurs look as if they’ve found the right balance in their defence, their midfield has the strength that it was once missing and there’s so much speed up top. They look really hard to defend against. Ange Postecoglou has brought a clear identity to Tottenham and that’s something they’ve needed for a long time. It’s brilliant to see.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Not many people gave Arsenal a chance of finishing in the top four before the start of last season but the Gunners surprised people by putting together a title challenge.

So, there is no reason to think Spurs cannot do the same this season. Having said that, it would be unfair to put that kind of pressure on Postecoglou and make him a victim of his own early success.

I believe that a top-five finish (which could be enough for CL qualification this season) will be a successful season for Spurs, given how abject we were in the second half of last campaign.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Louis Saha has been discussing the club’s current attacking options, and suggested Heung-min Son might not be the right man to lead the line for Spurs this season.

After a summer of speculation, Spurs sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last month. Naturally, losing a player of that calibre has left the Lilywhites with a considerable gap to fill in their forward line.

Ange Postecoglou did not sign a new striker before the transfer window closed. Instead, he opted to start the new Premier League campaign with Richarlison in the number nine role.

Despite some hard-working displays, the Brazilian is still without a league goal this season, however, he did score in the Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham.

With Richarlison suffering a slight knock in that game, Postecoglou put his captain, Heung-min Son, in the centre forward role for last weekend’s 5-2 win at Burnley.

The South Korean ended that game with a hat-trick, and, according to Dean Jones at GiveMeSport, Son will continue to play as a striker for Spurs.

Can Son lead the line for Tottenham?

In Louis Saha’s opinion, however, Son may not be the answer to Tottenham’s needs. At least, not in the more difficult games this season.

He told Paddy Power: “Having Son playing as a striker could be one solution for Tottenham this season, but only for certain types of games, as last season he would always be on the wing providing space and chances for Harry Kane.

“On a day where everything clicks for Tottenham and they create ten chances, obviously a player like Son with his quality will score goals. On a day where things are a bit tighter and more difficult, he’ll need to have the instinct of a striker.

“This is where it will be difficult for him and where he has to improve because he will have to be a bit more patient, not be frustrated, and score on his first opportunity which is definitely the hardest thing to do. He’s capable of doing it and he will improve especially now he has more responsibility, so there is a chance of a transformation for him.

“It’s not his natural quality so he will have to adapt in different games. Richarlison needs to do better to impose himself as the number nine at Spurs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s hard to say whether Sonny and Richarlison will be enough to see us through to January, or even the end of the season. If we need more firepower by the New Year, we should sign Ivan Toney. If we can last until the end of the season, we should move for Evan Ferguson – regardless of cost.

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou could become the first manager on the Premier League chopping block this season, former striker Louis Saha has warned.

Postecoglou is looking to pick up the pieces in North London after Tottenham have experienced plenty of turbulence since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Jose Mourinho and more recently, Antonio Conte all failing to deliver silverware.

Tottenham head into the new season on the back of a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season which will now see them without European football for the first time in well over a decade.

Saha believes Postecoglou could be first manager to be sacked

The start of the transfer window looked promising with the arrivals of Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison and Manor Solomon, however, the club are still yet to bring in a top quality central defender despite having been continually linked with both Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven for some period of time.

Saha, who spent six months at Tottenham as a player was asked by BettingOdds about which manager could be the first out of work, to which he replied: “This is a tough question to answer! I think the Tottenham job is a tough one, and we have seen in the past few years some top managers struggle there. If in the first few games Spurs don’t start well under Postecoglou I could see him being under a bit of pressure.

“The Kane situation hasn’t been solved and it’s a new manager with a new system so there is a lot of question marks, so he is the first name that’s come to mind when I think of the first sacking.

“It is really hard to predict what’s going to happen and in modern football even if you are a manager of a newly promoted team and you struggle in the first 10 games you could get sacked which I just don’t think is fair at all, so it is hard to say.”

SpursWeb Opinion

It would be an even bigger disaster if Tottenham even contemplated sacking Ange Postecoglou this season, the Australian needs to be given at least a couple of years to look to overhaul the squad and stamp his style of play upon the players.

We have already seen glimpses in pre-season of an exciting, forward-thinking approach to matches which is a welcome sight compared to the counter-attacking and defence-minded styles of Nuno Espirito Santo, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Daniel Levy and the board have to do everything to give Postecoglou the tools he needs to turn around our fortunes, one significant concern at present is the lack of progress in signing a quality central defender with Edmond Tapsoba an addition which is needed to shore up a leaky backline.

Mauricio Pochettino’s start to life at Spurs was not exactly convincing and he proved with time, he was able to make his mark by implementing his methods.

Louis Saha believes that Tottenham Hotspur could be the surprise package of the Premier League next season if things start clicking under Ange Postecoglou.

After Tottenham’s strategy of hiring ‘big-name’ managers who have won the biggest trophies in the game backfired, the club have decided to go a different route by appointing a manager who has a reputation for playing the kind of attacking, front-foot football that Spurs fans want to see.

While Postecoglou has made it clear that he will not abandon his principles of play, he insisted that his style of football is geared towards being successful rather than simply entertaining the supporters ( Football.London).

However, there is no doubt that the Australian will face the biggest challenge of his career so far in N17 as he will be going up against some of the best teams and managers in world football.

Saha tips his old club to be a surprise package

Saha, who spent a brief six-month spell at Tottenham in 2011, believes that the Lilywhites could surprise a few people next season if Harry Kane stays.

The pundit told Betfred (as relayed by The Metro): “Tottenham could be a surprise package, which is weird to say. They’ve had a change in manager, Harry Kane could still potentially stay and they’re a great club.

“But I would be surprised if they caught up on the better teams in the league next season. But who knows? There are too many contenders, to be honest.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The one thing that is guaranteed is that the players will take some time to adapt to Postecoglou’s methods, having been accustomed to a safety-first approach for the first few years.

So, results might be up and down for the first half of the season.

It is important that the fans continue to back the process rather than getting on the team’s or the manager’s back.

Louis Saha has predicted that Harry Kane will sign for Manchester United at the end of the season, insisting that the striker would have seen that ‘something special’ is brewing at Old Trafford at the moment.

Kane, who created history by becoming Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer on Sunday, has less than 18 months left on his contract at the North London club (Transfermarkt).

Spurs might thus be in a position of needing to cash in on him in the summer if he does not sign a new deal before then, with Man Utd and Bayern Munich backed to make a move for the England captain at the end of the season (Sky Sports).

Some sources have claimed over recent weeks that Tottenham remain optimistic about the 29-year-old’s future as has made it clear internally that his preference would be to remain at the club (Football Transfers).

However, Saha believes that Kane will join United next summer, remarking that the striker would be recognised as one of the best in the world if he makes that move.

The Frenchman told CompareBet: “My prediction is this: Harry Kane will come to Manchester United and win the Premier League. He will have seen the last few games from United and seen that if he joined that attack they could be special.

“He can be recognised as one of the best in the world. He has a modern way of playing, but at the same time, he’s very old school.

“I think he can reach higher levels, especially in terms of personal achievements because the guy can do it, and he’s a terrific guy and a great ambassador for the Premier League. I really wish he will become a Manchester United player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The arrogance of Man Utd fans and former United players never ceases to amaze me. It is worth remembering that United finished well below us in the table last season and currently sit just three points above us. I do not see how a move from Spurs to United would be a massive step up for Kane, let alone offer the striker a guarantee of winning league titles.

Louis Saha believes that Tottenham Hotspur will rue not snapping up Leandro Trossard from Brighton during the January transfer window.

Two players arrived through the door at Hotspur Way in January, with the club strengthening their forward line and at right wing-back with the signings of Arnaut Danjuma and Pedro Porro.

Earlier in the transfer window, reports indicated that Spurs had expressed an interest in signing Trossard after the Belgian’s public fallout with head coach Roberto de Zerbi (Football Insider).

However, it was Arsenal who eventually won the race for Trossard, with the Gunners reportedly agreeing on a deal worth £27m with Brighton for the attacker.

Some sources had indicated that Antonio Conte’s men had only submitted a verbal offer of £12m for the 28-year-old (The Athletic), which had allegedly been ‘laughed off’ by the Seagulls (Charlie Haffenden).

Saha believes that Spurs could have made a more serious attempt to snap up the former Genk man, insisting that they will regret allowing the player to join their local rivals.

When asked about Tottenham’s failed pursuit of Trossard, the former Man Utd striker told The Games Cabin: “Yes, I do believe they’ll regret not signing him. There are things we don’t understand behind why a transfer has or hasn’t happened, but Trossard is a great player who would have really helped Tottenham in so many ways.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on Tottenham’s paltry offer for Trossard, it did not seem like the Belgian was anywhere near the top of Antonio Conte’s or Fabio Paratici’s wishlist. It appeared as if the Lilywhites simply tested the waters with a small bid as they sensed a market opportunity after the 28-year-old’s falling with De Zerbi.

Former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Louis Saha has said that while he expects Spurs to fight to keep hold of Harry Kane, it would be difficult for the North London club to stop the striker if he decides he wants to leave the club.

There has been plenty of good news on the Kane front over the last couple of weeks since The Athletic’s David Ornstein first broke on 23 January that the 29-year-old is open to signing a new deal at Spurs and that the club are expected to open talks with the player soon.

(Photo by Craig Mercer/MB Media/Getty Images)

In his column for Football Transfers last week, CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that the England captain will likely remain at his boyhood club and sign a new deal if Tottenham qualify for the Champions League.

He further explained that the North London club are optimistic about Kane’s future as the striker has made it clear to the club that his preference would be to stay.

However, Saha believes that the Spurs talisman deserves the opportunity to make a big move in the summer if he decides that is what he wants to do.

When asked about the speculation over Kane’s future, the Frenchman told GGrecon: “I’m sure Tottenham will try to keep him.

“Losing him to another Premier League rival, similar to what happened with Robin van Persie when he left Arsenal for Manchester United, is not impossible because you can’t stop a player that’s done so much for the club.

“I believe he deserves a move if he wants one, especially to a club like Real Madrid where he’d have a great opportunity of winning the Champions League. If he goes to Bayern Munich then he’d definitely win the Bundesliga, so there are some exciting opportunities for him out there.

“He could even go to Manchester United and help them win the Premier League whilst still having the opportunity of breaking the Premier League goalscoring record.

“If he leaves Tottenham, then he will leave with some regrets because he’s tried so hard to win things with the club and make them successful.

“However, he can still look at himself in the mirror and be proud of what he’s done for the club. You have a short career and I hope he can win some silverware, wherever that may be, because he deserves it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think Kane will be wary of joining Manchester United as there is no guarantee that Erik Ten Hag’s project will continue in the same way that it has started.

I believe that the striker will only want to leave Spurs for a club that offer him a guarantee of competing for the league title and the Champions League.

Besides, Man Utd sit just three points above us in the table at the moment and it is certainly not a foregone conclusion that they will finish above us.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Louis Saha has backed Harry Kane to take England into the latter stages of the World Cup if he is able to replicate his goalscoring form from this season.

Kane has found the back of the net on 13 occasions in 22 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions and is enjoying his best tally in the Premier League at this stage (transfermarkt), with Erling Haaland’s prolific start to the campaign at Manchester City instead dominating the headlines.

Saha believes that if Kane can take his Spurs form into the tournament, the 29-year-old can help fire England into the semi-final of the tournament in Qatar.

The Three Lions kick off their Group B campaign against Iran on Monday afternoon and will also face Wales and the USA as they look to book their place in the next stage.

Kane also has the added incentive of eclipsing Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time top scorer, requiring just three goals to surpass the former Manchester United forward.

Saha told PaddyPower: “Harry Kane’s form is so important for England’s chances at the World Cup. He’s the main striker and if he’s playing well, he’ll score five, six or seven goals. Any team that has a player who scores that number of goals will be in the semi-final,”

“Kane is a guarantee anywhere in the world to get goals, championships and lifting trophies. He’s a big player and this season, he’s proved yet again that he is a world class player.

“Consistency is key and the number of years he’s remained at the top, everyone has expectations, and he still delivers. He has the armband for England, and he’s been very good for club and country.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Provided Kane and co can cope with the heat in Qatar, with the greatest respect to Iran, Wales, and the USA, he could easily find himself with four or five goals to his name by the time the group stage comes to its conclusion.

Louis Saha has revealed that while he wanted Harry Kane to leave Tottenham two years ago, he now believes that the striker should sign a new contract at the North London club.

Kane is into the final two years of his current deal at Spurs and reports over recent months have indicated that the Lilywhites are more confident that the striker could sign a new contract (The Athletic).

However, German publications continue to link the 29-year-old with a move to Bayern Munich next summer.

Earlier this week, Christian Falk claimed that Bayern are hopeful Kane will not sign a new contract with Spurs so they can make a move for him next summer.

However, Fabrizio Romano subsequently told CaughtOffside that despite interest from the Bundesliga giants, Tottenham are ‘relaxed’ about the England captain’s future.

Saha believes that Kane can fulfil his ambitions of winning major honours at Spurs since the club are moving in the right direction under Antonio Conte.

The former Man Utd and Tottenham striker told compare.bet: “I think I would have said that one or two years ago that Kane had to leave Tottenham, because he was on fire and everything at Tottenham was not improving around him.

“But at the moment, that is not the case. They are a very exciting side, Conte has managed to get an even stronger squad around Kane now.

“Now is not the moment to think about trophies, it’s so early in the season. But I can tell you now this squad can win trophies. The foundation is built and the manager has experience of winnings things. He’ll get them very close.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The only two clubs that Kane can go to in the Premier League, who would be a step up from Tottenham, are Man City and Liverpool.

However, with those two clubs having spent big on Haaland and Nunez respectively, they are not likely to be in the market for a centre-forward anytime soon.

Given that Spurs are now moving in the right direction, I do believe that the 29-year-old will be tempted to sign a new deal.

Louis Saha has tipped Tottenham to do ‘magical things’ in the Premier League next season under the guidance of Antonio Conte.

Appointed in November in place of Nuno Espirito Santo, the Italian coach led Spurs to a fourth-place finish and qualification for the Champions League next term.

After committing his future in North London, Conte reportedly set out plenty of demands for the summer transfer window (Telegraph) and Spurs have already started to deliver.

The recent arrival of Yves Bissouma from Brighton came after the acquisitions of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster on free transfers.

Former Tottenham striker Saha, who briefly played for the club in 2012, believes the club could be a surprise package in the Premier League next season but did not go as far as to say they could challenge for the title.

He told BoyleSports (via Football.London): “With a manager like Antonio Conte, Tottenham can do magical things.

“The Premier League is a different animal, but he’s shown time and time again that he can produce magical things and Harry Kane and Son are scary, they’ve also got a good defence.

“Whether they can mount a title charge will be Tottenham’s biggest challenge next season because the Premier League is the hardest competition to win.”

Saha also commented on new arrival Yves Bissouma: “Yves Bissouma is a terrific player and he can help with the balance of many aspects of the team and he can be a big asset to the club.

“He can play box-to-box football and help defensively as much as with the spells during games where the team disappears mentally.”

Spurs Web Opinion

With the moves Spurs have been making so far this summer, there is no reason why they cannot be dark horses next season and push on from the previous campaign.

Catching the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool will obviously be very tough, but cementing a place in the top four and gunning for silverware will be the club’s main goals.

Louis Saha has claimed that Jose Mourinho has not used Carlos Vinicius as much as he could have over recent months and insisted that the Brazilian has to play more regularly if he is to take some of the goal-scoring burden away from Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Both Kane and Son started the season in spectacular form and their brilliant partnership was one of the main reasons behind Tottenham flying high in the table.

However, both players have failed to hit their usual heights over recent weeks and predictably, Spurs’ results have suffered.

The Lilywhites have now picked up just two points in their last four league games and have subsequently dropped to seventh place in the table.

Saha believes that other players need to chip in with goals if Tottenham are to compete at the top end of the table.

The former Manchester United striker told Ladbrokes (as relayed by Football.London): “It is a worry that aside from Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, only Tanguy Ndombele has scored more than one league goal this season. Spurs have a decision to make in January.

“They need to look at players who can help get them more goals – even if that means signing another striker.

“I don’t think that they have used Carlos Vinicius enough this season, even in a competition like the League Cup.

“It’s something that needs to be addressed because if Kane and Son aren’t scoring, you don’t know where your goals are going to come from.

“I think they need to give Vinicius more of a chance during the rest of the season. The answer isn’t necessarily to bring in another striker because they brought him in last summer.”

Saha insisted that successful teams cannot rely on the same players to get their goals and warned Mourinho that he is risking Kane potentially picking up another injury by playing him in almost every game.

He added: “Yes, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son have been exceptional this season so it’s hard to get another striker into the team, but you have to find a way of maintaining the form and confidence of players that aren’t playing.

“I’m not going to teach Jose Mourinho how to do that because he’s a master.

“But the reason we were so successful at Man United was because we had four strikers who could all score goals and it took the pressure off all of us.

“It’s not easy to achieve because when you’re in form it’s hard to change a winning team, but Tottenham have dropped points in their last four matches so maybe this is the time to give someone like Vinicius a chance.

“We saw last year Harry Kane had a serious injury that kept him out and we saw a difference in Tottenham – so you have to address the problem you may find yourself in if someone as important and influential as him gets injured again.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Vinicius has also had fitness issues over the last few weeks which might be the reason why Mourinho has not played him as often as he would have liked. I would like to see Harry Kane playing off Vinicius in certain games as the Brazilian can potentially pin defenders back and afford the England captain more space to influence the game.

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of five teams who can win the Premier League title this season.

It was only two weeks ago that Tottenham were sitting at the top of the table and looking like they could potentially push Liverpool all the way this season.

Their defence looked extremely hard to breach, while Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were linking up in the final third with lethal consequence for the opposition

However, fast forward two weeks and the North Londoners have dropped out of the top four after picking up just two points from their last four league games.

Their defending in set-pieces has come under scrutiny while Jose Mourinho has been criticised for the team’s lack of attacking intent.

Saha believes that it is those close margins, where a couple of results can completely change a side’s outlook on the season, is what makes this campaign particularly exciting.

While the Frenchman acknowledged that Liverpool are favourites, he insisted that the race was far from over.

Saha told 5-A-Side Bet: “Liverpool are definitely the ones to beat for the Premier League title this year.

“Jurgen Klopp has such a great group of players who are eager to win every single game.

“They have so much strength in-depth and you can feel their frustration when things aren’t going their way. It’s a quality a lot of other sides are lacking.

“It’s a lot more difficult for Man City this season because in terms of creating chances, it feels very much like Kevin De Bruyne is on his own now since David Silva left the club.

“There’s now less guarantee in that Man City side winning games and ultimately the title than there is in Liverpool.

“I’d probably say there are four or five teams in with a genuine chance of winning the title.

“I’d definitely put Man United in there, Tottenham in there for sure as well. Chelsea have a good chance too, as well as the obvious two.

“I’m actually loving the competitiveness of the Premier League this season. Football needs it.

“When you look at leagues like Spain and France where it is always the same one or two teams – it’s great to see such a wide-open league in England.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The picture for Tottenham was not as rosy as some Spurs fans were painting it out to be a couple of weeks ago and it is not as grim at the moment as some seem to think. In reality, the title was always likely to be beyond our reach this season. However, we are certainly close to the chasing pack and a couple of wins will take us back up to second or third.

Louis Saha has lavished praise on Harry Kane and believes that Manchester United need a striker of the calibre of the Tottenham Hotspur front man to dream of challenging for the Premier League title.

Kane has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford (Daily Mail),  but reports indicate that the striker is unlikely to be sold by the North Londoners this summer (Telegraph).

Speculation surrounding the England captain’s future has diminished over recent weeks but that has not stopped pundits from touting the Tottenham number ten as an option for Manchester United (Sky Sports) .

Jose Mourinho recently indicated that there was no reason for the 26-year-old to leave Spurs by claiming the striker shares his and Daniel Levy’s ambitions (Football.London).

Saha compared Kane to former Man Utd striker Robin Van Persie and suggested that the Red Devils needed someone who is guaranteed to score 30 goals a season like the Spurs star.

When asked if the likes of Kane, Firmino, Aubameyang and Aguero would get into United’s team, Saha told Compare.Bet: “They’re top players. Definitely, when you’re talking about Harry Kane – a proper striker.

“When you see how many goals he scores each season, I would be stupid not to consider him. He’s a world-class striker. I know Werner is quite young, but he’s a prolific goalscorer.

“There’s definitely talent out there in the league and we have to catch up, we need a guaranteed 30 goal striker who is able to create some magic out of nothing, like Van Persie was able to do, removing the burden of having to play well as a side.

“This is what wins titles. There are six to eight sides competing at the top, plus, there’s so much quality everywhere now, you need competition within the team too.”

Spurs Web Opinion

With Kane having four more years left to run on his contract, there is simply no question of him leaving Tottenham this summer. He is also not the sort of character to push for a move.

However, we must show signs of improvement next season and get close to challenging the front two. If we languish outside the top four again, then I suspect Kane will consider his future next summer.

Former Spurs striker Louis Saha has urged his compatriot Tanguy Ndombele to prove his critics wrong by doing his talking on the pitch.

Despite Tottenham ending up 2-0 winners over West Ham on Tuesday, speculation about Ndombele’s future has dominated the headlines after the game.

Telefoot’s Julien Maynard reported on Tuesday that the 23-year-old has refused to play for Mourinho again.

However, the Spurs boss has denied that he has had a falling out with the midfielder (Football.London).

L’Equipe have claimed that the North Londoners are looking to move the Frenchman on just one season after they shattered their transfer record to sign him from Lyon, with both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain both rumoured to be interested in his services.

However, Saha believes that the midfielder could still come good at Tottenham.

He urged Ndombele to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Raheem Sterling and shut his critics up by showing what he could do on the pitch.

When asked if the former Lyon man can turn around his fortunes at Spurs, Saha told Compare.bet: “Yes. As a professional footballer, you have to adapt.

“Whatever you hear the critics saying, at the end of the day it’s the football field where you have to prove people wrong.

“He’s a competitor and terrific player, and so his quality will shine and he’ll want to show that.

“You have to bring that to the training ground and show people how wrong they are. Players like Sterling have done this in the past, and have come back and proved people wrong.

“Dele Alli has been criticised big time. It’s been difficult for some to grasp which position he should play, and so people talk and put pressure on and it doesn’t help.

“When I was at United, I felt the manager was able to take pressure off the players and gave us confidence and validation needed to produce.

“Mourinho may have a different way of thinking and dealing with things. But when you show off your qualities and what you can do, people quickly forget about your weaknesses.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ndombele does not strike me as the kind of player who is driven to prove critics wrong. He comes across as a laid back character who needs an arm around his shoulder to be able to perform at his best.

It is clear that all is not well between him and Jose Mourinho. If he does not feature much in the seven games we have left this season, I expect us to cut our loses on him this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur started the season positively by dispatching newly promoted Aston Villa 3-1 in their first Premier League fixture of the campaign.

There seems to be a feel-good factor around the club this season after they secured some top signings this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino himself admitted before the game against Villa that there is a lot of excitement around the club this season due to the quality of players they have managed to bring in this summer (Football.London).

Former Man Utd, Everton and Spurs striker Louis Saha has now backed the Lilywhites to compete for the Premier League title. He claimed that Tottenham have the quality all over the pitch to match last season’s top 2.

Speaking to Football.London, Saha said, “Tottenham will be the team to challenge Man City and Liverpool. Tottenham will be right up there in the mix at the end of the season, as will Man United and Arsenal.

“All over the pitch, Tottenham have quality players. They have a lot of power in midfield which is vital for the way that they play. They have defenders who can score goals and wing-backs that are great going forward.”

The 41-year-old also insisted that getting to the Champions League final last season will give the squad the belief needed to win silverware this year.

He also reserved special praise for Pochettino, who he cited as the main reason behind Tottenham’s recent transformation.

Saha added, “Last season, they were more aggressive which is why they made it to the Champions League Final. As a result, they are now more confident and consistent and that will help drive them to success this season.

“Tottenham’s success has been mainly thanks to Pochettino who has mastered the team very well.

“He has made them hard to beat and they now perform well against the big teams – they are now expected to pick up points against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool, which is why you’ll see them near the top of the table at the end of the season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Pochettino would have got the squad believing that they have a shot at the title this season. However, if Man City and Liverpool show anywhere near the same level of consistency as they did last campaign, then it will be a massive ask to keep up with them. Next weekend’s game against Man City will offer us a much better picture of how close Spurs are to the league champions.
