The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that Djed Spence could salvage his career at Tottenham if he impresses on loan at Leeds United this season.
There was a lot of excitement about Spence’s arrival in North London last year following his breakthrough season on loan at Nottingham Forest in the Championship.
However, the 2022-23 campaign was one to forget for the 23-year-old, who did not get a single start for Spurs during the first half of the season before being shipped out on loan at Rennes.
Spence did not do enough to convince Ange Postecoglou that he should have a part to play at Tottenham this season, with the right-back being loaned out to Leeds United, who are looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League following their relegation last season.
Djed Spence still has a chance at Tottenham
Eccleshare has now claimed that the door has not been shut on the defender’s Spurs career just yet.
The journalist suggested that the Lilywhites are very much open to reintegrating the right-back into their plans for the future but in order for that, he needs to impress at Elland Road.
Very curious to see how Djed Spence does on loan at Leeds. The view at Spurs is that the door is still very much open, but this is an opportunity you feel he has to take. @PhilHay_ sets the scene for his season ahead here:https://t.co/AUKWbtDrF9

Spurs Web Opinion
Spence does not feel like a natural fit for the inverted full-back role in Postecoglou’s system but the same could have been said about Pedro Porro, who has had no issues adapting to the role.
So, if the right-back does well at Leeds, there is no reason why he cannot force himself into Postecoglou’s plans for next season.
