TEAMtalk have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz ahead of the January transfer window.
Wirtz has lit up the German top flight this season, with the versatile attacker, who can play out wide or as an attacking midfielder, having five goals and eight assists to his name across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).
The 20-year-old’s enterprising displays are one of the reasons why Xabi Alonso’s men are sitting pretty at the top of the Bundesliga table after nine matches.
TEAMtalk claim that Wirtz’s performances have not gone unnoticed in England, with several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, credited with an interest in the youngster.
Spurs are keeping an eye on Florian Wirtz
The report states that Spurs and their North London rivals, Arsenal have both made checks on the German international this season while Newcastle are also tracking the youngster.
In addition, Manchester City are also named as admirers of the attacker but the publication asserts that it is Chelsea who are the ‘most interested’ in signing the player.
It is explained that the Witz’s profile fits perfectly with the Blues’ vision, and that Mauricio Pochettino’s men love the versatility he offers in attacking positions.
Finally, the outlet adds that while a number of European clubs have been tracking the Leverkusen man’s progress for a while, there is now a feeling that 2024 is the year that he will finally make a big transfer.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham are not only in need of a wide option after the injuries to Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic but they also need a top-class cover for James Maddison, which Witz would be able to provide.
His age profile would make him a good fit for Spurs but the youngster is likely to cost a fortune and I am not sure if the Lilywhites will want to get involved in a bidding war with the likes of Chelsea and Man City for the player.
