Sport have revealed that Clement Lenglet has turned down the chance to move to Saudi Arabia, with Barcelona said to be fearful that the centre-back is now ‘waiting’ to join Tottenham.
It emerged last week that Lenglet was close to completing a switch to Al-Nassr (The Athletic) but that has seemingly fallen through, with reports over the last couple of days indicating that the Frenchman wants to remain in Europe (Mundo Deportivo).
Barca fear that Lenglet intends to wait for Spurs
Sport have now claimed that the 28-year-old has ‘definitively ruled out’ a move to Al-Nassr even though Barca were keen to sell him to the Saudi Pro League club for €10m (£8.5m).
The report states that Al-Nassr are now looking to wrap up a deal for Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte instead, which leaves the La Liga giants in a pickle as they are keen to get Lenglet’s salary off their wage bill swiftly.
The publication adds that Barca are of the opinion that the centre-back is ‘prioritising’ a return to Tottenham, even though the Premier League side have made it clear that they would only pay a ‘token’ transfer fee for the player.
It is asserted that if Lenglet’s move to Spurs does go through, it is unlikely that the operation would be closed before the final few days of the transfer window.

It is quite evident that Lenglet has informed Tottenham right from the start that he would prioritise a return to the club, which is why the Lilywhites seem happy playing the waiting game, knowing that Barca would eventually have to accept their cut-price offer.
