Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese has said that there is no reason to think that rumoured Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez will leave De Kuip this summer.
Tottenham now look increasingly likely to poach Arne Slot from Feyenoord this summer and there have been suggestions from the Dutch press over recent days that captain Orkun Kokcu would follow the Dutch coach to Spurs (Algemeen Dagblad).
Gimenez is another of the Eredivisie club’s stars who has been linked with a move to the North London club recently.
The Daily Mirror reported last month that Tottenham have sent scouts to watch the Mexican centre-forward, who has found the back of the net 23 times across all competitions in Rotterdam this season.
TV Azteca subsequently revealed that Gimenez is also on the radars of both Brighton and Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, Te Kloese is confident that the striker will want to remain at Feyenoord and test himself in the Champions League next season.
He told TV Azteca about Gimenez’s future: “For a player, there is no greater challenge than playing in the Champions League. He must take advantage of this.
“You never know in football but, at the moment, there is no concrete interest. He has a long-term contract. We have no indication that he will go to another club.
“That will happen when the time is right. When he has played games in the Champions League and played more consistent games at a high level.”
Spurs Web Opinion
With Slot now looking increasingly likely to come to Tottenham, it is certainly conceivable that Spurs would try to poach a couple of Feyenoord’s best players this summer.
However, I am sceptical about whether Gimenez would be able to make a similar impact in the Premier League as the step up from the Eredivisie to the English top flight is substantial.
