According to a report in the print edition of L’Eco Di Bergamo (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Juventus centre-back Cristian Romero.
Romero has not played a single game since moving to Juve in a £23.4m deal back in 2019, with the defender instead spending the last two seasons on loan at Genoa and Atalanta.
The centre-back impressed last season for the Bergamo club, who reportedly have the option to make the deal permanent this summer for €16m (£13.7m).
L’Eco Di Bergamo explain that Atalanta plan on activating that option on the back of Romero’s displays last season.
However, it is suggested that Tottenham could look to buy the centre-back from Atalanta this summer, with the North London club apparently having their ‘eyes open’ regarding the 23-year-old’s situation.
Romero is the latest in a long list of centre-backs linked with a move to the club this summer, with the North London club reportedly set to prioritise strengthening the area during this transfer window.
Spurs Web Opinion
Given that we now have Paritici calling the shots, it would not be a surprise to see us dip into the Italian market this summer. However, I do worry about the different demands of being a centre-back in Italian and English football.
We have seen players like Smalling and Fazio, who were often not sharp enough for the intensity of the Premier League, thrive in the Serie A. So, let us hope Partici and his scouting team take due account of the different demands of English football before settling on their targets.
