Atalanta CEO, Luca Percassi has claimed that he is not surprised to see some of the club’s players being linked with big European teams this summer.

The Italian club enjoyed a stand-out season last time out, finishing third in Serie A and impressing in the Champions League.

Calciomercato have reported that Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United are all interested in signing Cristian Romero this summer.

Romero played an impressive 42 games for Atalanta last season, including seven in the Champions League. During this time, he managed to chip in with three goals and five assists (TransferMarkt).

However, the central defender will likely not come cheap. Atlanta themselves took Romero on a two-year loan from Juventus in 2020 with an option to buy the player for €18m plus bonuses (Football Italia).

Calciomercato claimed that the defender was now worth around £43m heading into the summer transfer window.

Percassi said (Bergamo TV via CalcioNews24): “I don’t know if (the rumours) are true or not but it is normal that Atalanta, due to the results we have achieved, have players that can be of interest to more teams.

“Today, it is a market more of gossip than of interest. We will see what will happen.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Romero would be a good signing but there is no way that Spurs would pay £43m for him. He simply is not proven enough, especially when it comes to adapting to Premier League football. I expect Spurs to sign one £10-£15m centre back and one more expensive and experienced £30m option.
