Alasdair Gold has claimed via Football.London that the possibility of Tottenham signing both Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven cannot be ruled out.
In the last comprehensive update that Gold provided on Tottenham’s pursuit of Tapsoba and Van de Ven on July 4 (Football.London), the journalist explained that the Lilywhites are expected to sign one of the two for the left centre-back role.
He asserted at the time that the Bayer Leverkusen player was viewed by those at Spurs as someone who is more ‘readymade’ and can slot straight into Postecoglou’s backline, thanks to his ability on the ball, strength and acceleration.
However, he pointed out that the Wolfsburg man is expected to cost only around £30m while the Burkino Faso international could go for a fee as high as £50m this summer.
Fingers crossed for two big centre-back signings
Earlier this week, we relayed an update from journalist Paul Brown (GiveMeSport) who stated that Tottenham could sign the 24-year-old as well as the 22-year-old this summer.
Gold has now said the same, stating in his latest column that Tapsoba and Van de Ven could both arrive at N17 this summer depending on the departures from N17.
He wrote: ‘The north London club are looking to sign two new senior centre-backs this summer and have held talks with Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen about bringing in Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba respectively, and it has not been ruled out that they could yet move for both players depending on departures from Postecoglou’s squad.’
Spurs Web Opinion
If Tottenham were intent on signing both players, they would have likely concluded the deal for Van de Ven by now. The fact that they have not finalised a deal for the Dutchman suggests that he is viewed as an alternative to Tapsoba.
With Spurs also evidently in talks with Barcelona over a deal for Clement Lenglet, I would be surprised if they signed both the Wolfsburg and Leverkusen stars.
