Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham might only be able to push ahead with a move for Edmond Tapsoba if they cash in on Harry Kane.
It has been reported for quite a while that Tapsoba is Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role, with Alasdair Gold claiming at the start of this month that Spurs see the 24-year-old as a more readymade option than Micky van de Ven (Football.London).
The journalist explained at the time that the Wolfsburg man is only expected to cost only around £30m while the Burkino Faso international could go for a fee as high as £50m this summer.
However, Bayer Leverkusen’s managing director, Simon Rolfes, insisted last week that the Bundesliga club would not consider letting Tapsoba leave under ‘normal circumstances’, pointing out that the centre-back still has a long contract at the club (BuliNews).
Spurs may need Harry Kane money to land Tapsoba
Romano has now suggested that Spurs might need the cash influx from Kane’s sale to push ahead with a move for the Leverkusen man.
When asked about Tottenham’s pursuit of Tapsoba, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Tottenham are still in contact with people close to the player at Bayer Leverkusen.
“And so, I think it could depend also on Harry Kane. In the case Harry Kane leaves, and they have big money to invest in the market, Tapsoba could be realistic, otherwise, it could be difficult.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Kane’s departure now seems overwhelmingly likely. It is possible that the club have decided to wait until the cash influx from Kane’s sale before making moves for other targets as their transfer plans would obviously change if the England captain ends up leaving.
