Dane Scarlett’s loan spell at Portsmouth is seemingly not going to plan, with The News not being complimentary of the striker’s latest showing against Shrewsbury Town.
Scarlett made an impressive start to his loan spell at Pompey, which got Spurs fans excited about what the youngster could achieve at Fratton Park this season.
The teenager is highly thought of at the North London club, with former manager Jose Mourinho even backing him to be a future England superstar (Daily Mail).
However, Scarlett’s form has completely tailed off after the first couple of months of the campaign, with the striker having found the back of the net on only six occasions in 40 appearances across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).
The 19-year-old gold 25 minutes from the bench on Saturday as Portsmouth drew 1-1 at Shrewsbury in League One, and the youngster was said to have struggled for confidence in the game.
The News gave Scarlett a rating of 6/10 and wrote about his display: “A couple of positive moments, just sadly struggling for form and confidence at present and his goal threat has noticeably declined.”

It is important to remember that Scarlett is still extremely young, having only turned 19 last month. So, it is only natural that the striker would take some time to mature and understand his game.
It is worth remembering that even Harry Kane did not set the world alight in his first couple of loan spells in the lower leagues.
I have no doubt that Tottenham will continue investing in the teenager’s development despite his struggles this season.
