In their weekly update on the Tottenham players who are out on loan, Football.London have revealed that Joe Rodon was one of the stars of the show for Rennes in their memorable win over Paris Saint-Germain.
The centre-back, who has had to be content with a place on the bench since the Ligue 1’s restart, was handed his first start of the year as Rennes shifted to back three against PSG.
The Welshman excelled against the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar as Bruno Genesio’s side emerged 1-0 winners at home. According to Fotmob, Rodon had five clearances, two blocks, two recoveries and one interception, while he also won his two ground duels and one aerial duel.
Rodon was unable to help Rennes make it back-to-back wins last night when they crashed out of the French Cup, suffering a 1-0 defeat at Marseille.
Meanwhile, Destiny Udogie’s Udinese were on the end of yet another defeat last weekend against Bologna, although the left wing-back himself put in a decent display, looking quite threatening in the final third.
As Spurs Web covered earlier this week, Harry Winks made his first appearance of the season for Sampdoria in their 1-0 defeat against Empoli, with the midfielder getting around 30 minutes under his belt after coming on in the 62nd minute.
Sergio Reguilon, who like Winks has also missed the entirety of the first half of the season due to injury, did not have an outing to remember for Atletico in their 1-1 draw at Almeria on Sunday as he was given his marching orders.
The left-back came on as a substitute midway into the second half, only to get a booking for dissent in the 85th minute before picking up his second yellow four minutes later after catching an opponent with his arm.
Tanguy Ndombele played 102 minutes for Napoli as they were knocked out of Coppa Italia by Cremonese, with the Frenchman’s performance arguably being one of the only positives in what was an evening to forget for Luciano Spalletti’s men.
Troy Parrott made his first appearance since suffering a hamstring injury back in October, coming on for an 18-minute cameo against Norwich, with Preston North End being on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline.
Dane Scarlett played 72 minutes in Portsmouth’s 1-0 defeat to Bolton in the Papa Johns Trophy last week before getting another seven minutes off the bench over the weekend in a League One clash against the same opponents.
Giovani Lo Celso continues to work his way back from the injury which kept the midfielder out of the World Cup.
Spurs Web Opinion
Let us hope this performance is the start of Rodon’s turnaround at Rennes and the centre-back is able to force himself into Bruno Genesio’s starting eleven over the coming weeks and months.
Spurs will find it difficult to find a buyer for the 25-year-old next summer if he continues warming the bench in France (assuming Rennes do not take up the option to sign him permanently).
