Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Alejo Veliz showed plenty of promise in his debut for Tottenham’s Under-21s in their EFL Trophy clash at Colchester on Tuesday.
Tottenham ran out comfortable 5-0 winners on the night to book their place in the next round of the competition, with Jamie Donley and Jude Soonsup-Bell scoring a brace while Will Lankshear also found the back of the net.
Veliz has been out with an injury and only returned to training last Thursday, which is why the Argentine striker came on as a second-half substitute in yesterday’s clash.
Alejo Veliz impressed during U21 Tottenham debut
Gold revealed that the 20-year-old was a handful in the 28 minutes of action he got under his belt, with the journalist admitting that he was quite impressed with his movement.
He stated that the former Rosario Central man pulled the Colchester defenders all over the place, including in the build-up to Soonsup-Bell’s second goal.
Gold also said that the youngster looked like he had the physicality required for English football but he did add that the striker looked a little rusty with his finishing, having a couple of shots saved.
Vamos, Alejo! 💪

The rustiness in front of goal is to be expected, given that Veliz has been out with an injury and has not played much football over the last couple of months. The striker will likely get better and better as he gets more minutes for the Under-21s over the coming weeks.
