One of Tottenham’s new signings, Alejo Veliz, recently made his debut for the club’s U21 side. Now, a report has claimed the youngster has been impressing his manager, Ange Postecoglou, hence his appearance on the Spurs bench at the weekend.
When Spurs sold Harry Kane this summer, many expected the club to sign a new striker. However, no high-profile name arrived to fill that huge void left behind by the talismanic forward.
In fact, the only striker Spurs signed during a busy summer was the relatively unknown Alejo Veliz. The youngster signed for the Lilywhites in a reported £13m deal (BBC) from Rosario Central in his native Argentina.
Ange Postecoglou has seen his current roster of attackers flourish without Kane, with the likes of Heung-min Son, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski all stepping up to contribute goals to the team.
Postecoglou is happy with Alejo Veliz
Spurs fans are yet to see Veliz in action, and it could be a while until the 20-year-old actually gets his chance to play for the first team. However, a report from Football.London has shed some light on Veliz’s recent appearance on the substitute bench for the Lilywhites.
It is said that Veliz has ” impressed Postecoglou and his coaches” during training sessions through the week, and it was noted that his “finishing in particular [has been] lethal,” which led to him making the bench for the North London derby.
The term “golden generation” is used in the report to discuss the array of young stars Postecoglou currently has at his disposal. It is suggested the “nurturing” approach of the Australian could help these players flourish in the future.

The fact that Veliz has made it to the bench already is a pretty promising sign, and there’s a good chance we will see him take to the field in the near future. It’s exciting to think about what he could be capable of. You never know, he could absolutely explode onto the scene and be an instant hit.
