According to a report in Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Tottenham Hotspur may be facing competition from Barcelona for the signature of Willian Jose.
Spurs tried to sign the Real Sociedad striker in January (The Sun) but failed to get a deal for him over the line.
Calcio Mercato reported two weeks ago that the North Londoners could make another attempt to sign the Brazilian before the transfer window shuts, with the club contemplating making an offer of around €20m or €25m for the striker.
Jose’s relationship with Sociedad reportedly has not recovered since the striker pushed for a move to Spurs in January, with the La Liga side now willing to cash-in on him this summer (El Desmarque).
Noticias de Gipuzkoa suggest that Spurs are still interested in the 28-year-old but are unlikely to meet Sociedad’s asking price.
Meanwhile, it is revealed that Barcelona have identified Jose has a back-up option in case they fail to sign Lautaro Martinez or Memphis Depay.
The report asserts that the striker could be available for around €30 million (£27.5m) despite having a €70m (£64m) release clause in his contract.
Spurs Web Opinion
Unless we are managing to keep things completely under wraps, it does not seem as if we are pushing ahead with a move for Jose this transfer window. Based on reports over the last week or so, it appears as if the likes of Arkadiusz Milik, Habib Diallo, Wout Weghorst are higher on our wishlist than the Brazilian.
