Celta Vigo sporting director Juan Carlos Calero has said that while the La Liga club do not wish to sell rumoured Tottenham target Gabri Veiga, they might have to consider any big offers that come their way for the youngster.

Veiga shot into the limelight thanks to his breakthrough season at Estadio de Balaidos in 2022-23, finishing the campaign with 11 goals and four assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

A few days ago, we relayed a report from Le10Sport which claimed that the versatile midfielder’s displays had caught the attention of several clubs in the Premier League sides, including Spurs.

The publication claimed that the Lilywhites could face competition from their London rivals, Chelsea and Arsenal, for the 21-year-old’s signature.

The outlet asserted at the time that Celta were demanding that interested clubs meet the midfielder’s €40m (£35.3m) release clause to sign him.

Spurs have not made an offer for Gabri Veiga yet

Calero has now explained that while Veiga has not been put on the shop window, Celta are prepared for the possibility of bids coming their way for their starlet.

When asked about the speculation over the Spain Under-21 star’s future, the La Liga club’s sporting director told AS: “The president (of Celta) expressed it very clearly: he is not for sale, but they are going to look to buy him from us.

“It is intuition. From now until the end of the market we do not know what will happen.

“It may be that a proposal arrives that we have to listen to, but as of today there is none on the table.

“There is a lot of interest, but since he took the leap and did what he did. Today we have the player and he has a return date, July 25. He is excited about his return and we are counting on him.”

I do not think interested clubs would have to meet Veiga’s €40m (£35.3m) release clause to sign him.

Given the state of finances in the Spanish game, Celta would likely not be able to turn down an offer of around £25m-£30m for the 21-year-old.
