Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell has lavished praise on Ange Postecoglou for the work he has done at Celtic Park and admitted that the club are disappointed to be losing the Australian to Spurs.
Tottenham‘s move for Postecoglou proceeded fairly quickly following Celtic‘s Scottish Cup final on Saturday, with the North Londoners confirming earlier today that the 57-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the club.
While the general feeling is one of excitement among Spurs fans about the kind of football that the Australian will deliver, there are some who are not overly thrilled with the appointment due to the 57-year-old’s lack of experience at the very elite level.
It is fair to say that Postecoglou faced similar criticism when he first arrived at Parkhead, with the appointment being ridiculed in some quarters (talkSPORT).
However, he went on to make his critics eat their words and delivered five trophies in two years, catching the attention of Spurs.
Following his switch to North London, Lawwell spoke in glowing terms of the job that Postecoglou did during his time in Glasgow and the football that he delivered.
Celtic’s classy message for Postecoglou
The Celtic chairman told the Scottish club’s official website: “Against any measure, Ange has delivered a fantastic level of success to Celtic and we thank him for his brilliant contribution to the Club during the past two years.
“We were delighted to bring Ange to Celtic. He is a special manager who has had success wherever he has been and someone who brought to the club attacking, stylish and winning football in the best traditions of Celtic.
“Of course, we are disappointed that Ange has decided to leave the Club, and we did all we could to keep him with us well into the future, but he wanted to take this new opportunity and we wish Ange well in this and everything else he does.
“Now our focus is very much on ensuring we move forward positively and do all we can to ensure that we maintain our dominant position in Scottish football and also prepare for the exciting European challenges which lie ahead.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Every single executive, player and coach who has worked with Postecoglou has nothing but high praise for the Australian, which not only speaks to the kind of manager he is but also the person he is.
While this will undoubtedly be the biggest challenge in Postecoglou’s career, he seems to be someone who relishes the opportunity to prove his critics wrong, which he will hope to do at Tottenham as well.
