Amidst reports linking Kyogo Furuhashi with a move to Tottenham, Football Insider have now revealed that Celtic have opened talks with the striker over a new contract.
Furuhashi won the Player of the Year Award and the Golden Boot in Scotland after finishing the 2022-23 campaign with 34 goals across all competitions (Trasnfermarkt).
The Scottish Sun reported earlier this week that it is ‘widely expected’ that Ange Postecoglou will launch a bid to take the Japanese international with him to Tottenham.
The report claimed that the 28-year-old is not only attracting interest from Spurs but also from Serie A outfit Lazio, while some French and Spanish clubs are also monitoring his situation.
If Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace are also keen on bringing Furuhashi to the Premier League.
New contract offer from Celtic for Furuhashi
The publication explains that in order to ward off interest in the striker, Celtic have now opened talks to extend his stay at Parkhead amid the interest from other clubs.
The Scottish giants are said to be keen on keeping Furuhashi at Parkhead for at least one more season and are intent on getting him to put pen to paper a longer contract.
It is explained that the versatile forward ‘has been stung’ by Postecoglou’s exit, but he is happy in Glasgow and won’t rush into any decision over the coming weeks.
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs fans should take the Furuhashi speculation with a pinch of salt as it appears to be lazy speculation based simply on the fact that Postecoglou has arrived at Tottenham.
At the moment, there is nothing concrete to suggest that the Spurs are keen on snapping up frontman.
