The Daily Mail have revealed that Brendan Rodgers, who is on the verge of a return to Celtic, wants John Kennedy, who is on Tottenham’s radar, to remain at the club as part of his coaching staff.
Multiple reports over the last week have indicated that Postecoglou wants to offer key roles to coaches John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan, at Tottenham (Football Insider).
However, Record Sport reported on 9 June that Celtic had ‘cold shouldered’ the approach from Spurs for the duo.
The report stated while the two coaches want to follow Postecoglou to the Premier League club, Tottenham would have to thrash out compensation with the Glasgow giants to get the pair.
It was asserted that Postecoglou might have to look elsewhere to fill his backroom staff if the Lilywhites are unable to come to an agreement with Celtic.
Spurs could miss out on John Kennedy
The Mail have now revealed that Rodgers, who is on the verge of returning to Celtic Park to fill the vacancy left by the Australian, is now putting his final touches to his backroom staff.
It is alleged that the Northern Irishman made it clear to Kennedy on Tuesday that he sees him as an important part of his plans at the club.
The publication adds that even though the 39-year-old has expressed his desire to leave Parkhead, he is bound by the terms of an agreement blocking Postecoglou from poaching Celtic’s staff.
Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect that Postecoglou might have already started looking at other options to fill his backroom staff, with Celtic seemingly determined to hang on to Kennedy.
The Australian is certainly no stranger to working with a new set of staff, having done so every time he has switched clubs.
