Arsenal legend Ian Wright has added his name to the ever-growing list of admirers of Tottenham’s progress in the transfer market this summer, with the pundit backing Spurs to claim a top four spot this season alongside the Gunners.
Spurs have had a busy summer, bringing in six new faces so far. Antonio Conte was keen to bolster his ranks with more depth and quality, to develop more competition for places within the team and allow him to achieve his ambitions this season (Football.London).
In the last week, we have seen former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour put rivalry aside and admit to Sky Sports that Spurs are ‘looking good’ ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
Even Roy Keane, a notorious critic of Spurs, has backed the North London club to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool this season (ITV, 30/07/2022 – 4:55 pm).
During the coverage of the Community Shield, Keane’s punditry partner Ian Wright also added his thoughts.
Wright said ((ITV (30/07/2022 – 4:55 pm): “Obviously, I hope Arsenal will be close. I think Tottenham are doing some great business, they are going about their business.
“Manchester United, depending what’s happening with Ten Hag, if he can get them going, what’s happening with Ronaldo, we don’t know.
“But I think it’s going to be these two (Liverpool and Manchester City), then I am probably going to go Arsenal, Tottenham, because I love Arsenal.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s almost a given that Manchester City and Liverpool will be the top two again this season, but there’s every chance that Tottenham Hotspur can close that gap on them and mount a serious challenge to the established hierarchy in the Premier League. A top-three finish has to be the target for Spurs this campaign.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have also added real quality to their sides, and will more than likely be fighting it out for the other Champions League spot this year. As painful as it is to admit it, Arsenal may just have the edge in the race for fourth, with Chelsea and Manchester United both going through something of a rebuild.
