Ahead of the new Premier League season, a FiveThirtyEight supercomputer has been tasked with predicting the final table for the 2022/23 campaign.

While the results have Spurs finishing in the top four, some fans may not be pleased to see a lack of progress from last season.

With the upcoming Premier League campaign set to kick off on Friday, fans and pundits alike are assessing the squads of each of the 20 teams in England’s top division to determine who will flourish and who will flop this year.

Not content with your standard prediction process, FiveThirtyEight enlisted the help of a supercomputer to process data to ascertain every detail of the final Premier League table, from points gained to goal difference, and even the positions of each team throughout the campaign.

The results see Manchester City winning their third title on the bounce, with Liverpool finishing behind them in second once again. The rest of the top four is rounded out by Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, just like last season (PremierLeague.com).

It comes as no surprise that Arsenal end up in fifth with Manchester United finishing sixth in the hypothetical table, as the big six once again dominate the top spots in the Premier League, according to the supercomputer.

While many fans would be happy that Spurs had secured Champions League football for a second consecutive season, there will no doubt be concerns based on the predicted points tally accrued by the club.

The supercomputer reckons Spurs will finish on 66 points this season. That’s five points less than last season. For Tottenham to finish six points behind third-placed Chelsea, as opposed to a three-point gap of last season, would also be seen as a step backwards by many.

Of course, the results of this supercomputer are nothing more than an educated guess, so there’s no need to panic.

Spurs Web Opinion

A top-four finish is a must for Spurs this season, but perhaps just as important for the fanbase is to see the club make positive strides to close the gap on those above. While some dare to dream of a title challenge in the forthcoming campaign, we’re sure most would be very happy to simply improve on last season.

If the supercomputer were to be correct, gaining less points than the previous season would have to be seen as a problem, regardless of Champions League qualification.
