Chelsea have identified former Spurs right back Kyle Walker-Peters as a potential transfer target as the London club looks to bolster their defence.

After a slow start to the transfer window, and a number of key players such as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen departing Stamford Bridge, the blue side of London appear to be taking care of business as the start of the new campaign approaches.

The current priority for Chelsea is the conclusion of a deal for Brighton and Hove Albion left-back Marc Cucurella, after it emerged they had hijacked Manchester City’s attempts to recruit the Spaniard (Fabrizio Romano).

Now, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea will also explore options to recruit a new right back. Former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Kyle Walker-Peters, now of Southampton, has been named as a target.

According to the Italian journalist, Denzel Dumfries tops the list but Inter Milan are not thought to be keen on letting him go. An alternative it seems would be the home-grown talent of Walker-Peters.

The young full-back has thrived on the South coast since making the move from Spurs back in 2020, with last season proving to be something of a breakout year.

Walker-Peters played 37 games across all competitions for the Saints, and even made his England debut back in March (Transfermarkt).

While it is expected that Chelsea would have to pay close to £40 million for Walker-Peters (The Sun), it was revealed recently that Tottenham Hotspur also have the option to buy the player back for just £30 million should they wish to (The Athletic).

Spurs Web Opinion

This is one of those weird situations where, even though bringing in another new right-back isn’t really a priority for Spurs at the moment, the club should definitely keep an eye on Chelsea’s movements. Tottenham may not need Kyle Walker-Peters right now, but they most certainly wouldn’t want to see a rival club pick him up.
