Spurs defender Eric Dier has confirmed that he has no injury concerns after he was forced off with a knock in the pre-season friendly win against Rangers on Saturday.

Speaking to Football.London, Dier revealed that he is feeling fine despite leaving the field after 67 minutes at Ibrox Stadium. The Tottenham veteran spoke of the competitive nature of the match, but put any fears of an injury to rest.

He said: “We knew it was going to be a difficult game, we knew it wasn’t going to be much of a friendly.”

The news comes as a relief, with Dier now a key member of the Spurs backline. The defender enjoyed what was arguably his best campaign to date last season, registering 16 clean sheets in 35 league appearances for the club (PremierLeague.com).

With Spurs only adding one centre-back to their squad this summer so far, and Ben Davies currently on the injury table (TottenhamHotspur.com), to lose Eric Dier would be rather disruptive as the club prepares for the new Premier League campaign.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Cristian Romero deservedly attracts a lot of the praise, it is Eric Dier who is the linchpin of the Spurs defence and his experience is vital to the balance of the back three.

His value cannot be underestimated, so it’s great news that there are no concerns after the knock at Ibrox. Nevertheless, this little scare might just be enough to convince the club to push forward and bring in another top-quality defender before the transfer window closes.
