Fanatik have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are now battling their North London rivals Arsenal for the services of Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson.
Various Turkish outlets over the past few weeks have reported on Spurs’ interest in Nelsson, with Hurriyet even suggesting last week that the two clubs are in talks over the Denmark international, with Davinson Sanchez going the opposite way in a potential separate deal.
Recently, we also relayed a report from Ekstra Bladet (July 10), which claimed that Spurs were battling Wolves for the Galatasaray centre-back, who allegedly preferred to join the Lilywhites.
Arsenal now in the picture for Victor Nelsson
Fanatik have now named Arsenal as Tottenham’s main competitor for Nelsson’s signature, with both clubs said to be insisting on signing the 24-year-old.
It is explained that the defender came close to joining Sevilla last summer before Galatasaray convinced him to stay but the Istanbul-based club are not able to do the same this summer, with the player having his heart set on leaving.
It is asserted that both North London clubs have been told to meet Nelsson’s €25m (£21.3m) release clause, with negotiations with both clubs said to be ‘continuing’.
Fanatik also report on Galatasaray’s interest in Sanchez and suggest that there could be ‘more concrete developments’ on that front in a few days.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Tottenham do hold a serious interest in Nelsson, they could use Galatasaray’s interest in Sanchez as a trump card to beat the other suitors to the Dane’s signature.
However, I suspect that Spurs merely view the 24-year-old as a backup option in case a deal for their top centre-back targets does not materialise.
