Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will be ‘the leader’ of the transfer market next summer.

Antonio Conte revealed this week that he has completed evaluating his squad and is waiting to have discussions with the Spurs hierarchy regarding potential signings and departures.

The North London club are expected to target a right-wing-back, a forward and a left-sided centre-back this month.

ESPN claimed this week that Tottenham will offer Conte significant funds to strengthen his squad but suggested the majority of the club’s spending is expected to be done in the summer rather than in January.

Di Marzio has now backed up that claim, insisting that big transfers are extremely difficult to pull off in the middle of the season.

The journalist revealed that Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski is one of the players on Tottenham’s radar and backed the North London club to spend big in the summer.

When asked if we can expect Spurs to be busy this window, Di Marzio told Sky Sports News (starting at 3:49) “I think so.

“I know that Antonio and Fabio Paratici, they like Kulusevski for example, is a Juventus young player that Fabio got to Juventus, buying him from Atalanta.

“It is not easy but he is one of the names (on Tottenham’s radar). And then I think in this January, Tottenham will do something but I think in June, Tottenham will be the leader of the market with a lot of important deals.

“In January, it is very difficult, very difficult to find top players available who can change teams. So it is not easy.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham generally do not tend to do too much business in January. With Conte likely to demand top players rather than just stop-gap additions, all signs point towards a summer spending spree. I do not expect Spurs to sign more than two players by the end of this month.
