Alasdair Gold has revealed that Ange Postecoglou gave the green light for Tottenham to complete the permanent signing of Dejan Kulusevski.

Kulusevski became Tottenham’s first signing of the summer transfer window, with the club confirming on Saturday that the Swede had completed a permanent switch from Juventus following his 18-month loan spell in North London.

Despite the 23-year-old’s lacklustre form during much of the 2022-23 season, the signing was certainly welcomed by the majority of the Spurs fans.

However, there were some question marks over whether Postecoglou was keen on the signing, with 90 min reporting last week that the Australian was unconcerned by the wide-man.

The publication claimed that Kulusevski had to win the new Spurs head coach over during pre-season.

Postecoglou approved Spurs’ Kulusevski transfer

This claim has now been contradicted by Gold, who stated in his latest column for Football.London that Postecoglou approved Tottenham’s £25.6m signing of the former Atalanta man.

The journalist asserted that the 57-year-old sees Kulusevski as someone who can even operate in the number eight role if required.

Spurs would have obviously not proceeded with a move for Kulusevski if Postecoglou did not want him. There is also no intelligible reason why the Australian would not have wanted the 23-year-old, who could fit into several roles in a 4-3-3- as well as a 4-2-3-1, given his versatility.
