James Maddison has clearly made a big impression in the short time he has been at Tottenham Hotspur, as his new teammate, Dejan Kulusevski has been praising the midfielder’s performances and what he brings to the team.
Spurs had been lacking a creative spark in the middle of the pitch for a very long time. Not since Christian Eriksen left the club in 2020 had the Lilywhites possessed a talent capable of unlocking defences and providing ample opportunities for the attackers.
In James Maddison, a £40m summer signing from Leicester City (Sky Sports) this summer, it appears Tottenham have added the missing piece to their puzzle.
The 26-year-old has been a shining light in Tottenham’s pre-season schedule so far, as Ange Postecoglou introduces the squad to his brand of attacking, entertaining football, and a new, 4-3-3 formation.
In the most recent friendly, a 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, Maddison won a penalty in the first half, before providing a perfect cross for Harry Kane to head home a second goal.
Kulusevski praises Maddison’s passing
Speaking to the Evening Standard after that win over Shakhtar, Dejan Kulusevski complimented Maddison on his passing ability and revealed how he has changed his game since the England international arrived.
He said: “When he has the ball it’s amazing. As soon as I have the ball I look for space and look to run in the space because he’s a very good passer. Like he did for the goal for Harry, 2-1.”
Spurs Web Opinion
With players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski providing chances, and Harry Kane and Heung-min Son finishing them, Spurs should be a lethal attacking force this season.
Maddison appears to be just settling into his new surroundings and hasn’t really stepped out of first gear yet, which is encouraging as we know there should be plenty more to come from him.
