He may not have scored a goal for a while, but Dejan Kulusevski did provide two assists in the win over Shakhtar Donetsk last weekend, and the Tottenham attacker reckons that’s a sign of things to come and that he will grab a goal soon.
Kulusevski finally made his loan spell at Tottenham a permanent move this summer and many Spurs fans will be hoping to see the Swedish star back to his very best in the forthcoming campaign.
The winger made a huge impact upon his arrival in North London, contributing five goals and eight assists in the back-end of the 2021/22 campaign to help Spurs finish in the top four (Transfermarkt).
However, last season was a different story for Kulusevski, as it was for most of the Spurs players. Through injuries and inconsistent form, the 23-year-old managed just two goals and eight assists all season last term (Transfermarkt).

Speaking to Football.London after the recent 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk, Kulusevski revealed how pleased he was to be contributing assists to the team effort once more, and insisted that these assists are a sign that a goal is coming soon.
He said: “I know exactly what [Postecoglou] wants from me. He wants me to attack the box much more when the balls are on the side and when I have the ball just go all the time and don’t care if I lose it. Just keep going.
“I always have a target but I just to play the game on the right and then everything will come. Today I did two assists. I’m very happy because usually when I start making those, the goals come after. So, I’m very satisfied.”

Like a lot of players in the Spurs squad – Yves Bissouma and Heung-min Son are two other examples – having Dejan Kulusevski back to his best form this year would be like having a new signing at the club.
The style of play Postecoglou prefers will certainly suit Kulusevski better and give him a chance to flourish this season.
