The Daily Star have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are close to completing the signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon.
Multiple publications over recent weeks have suggested that Antonio Conte wants to strengthen at right wing-back in January, with Porro thought to be the Italian’s top target (The Athletic).
Portuguese outlet A Bola (31/12/22 via Sport Witness) claimed on Saturday that the North London club are in contact with the 23-year-old’s agent and have taken the first steps to snap him up.
If the Daily Star’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs are now ‘nearing’ the capture of the Spaniard. The report states that Conte has made it clear to the Spurs hierarchy that he wants to strengthen the squad in January, with Daniel Levy said to be prepared to back the Italian’s vision.
It is alleged that the 53-year-old expects the Lilywhites to conclude a £35m deal for Porro by the end of this week.
The publication further adds that snapping up the Sporting star would be ‘a step in the right direction’ in getting Conte to commit his future to Spurs.

Based on the various reports over recent days, it seems like signing Porro is the club’s number-one priority in January. However, given the injury issues we have, one could make the case that we need another attacking player much more urgently than we do a right-wing-back.
