Record’s latest update comes as a blow to Tottenham’s pursuit of Pedro Porro, with the publication stating that the right-back will not leave Sporting Lisbon in January.
Porro has emerged as one of Tottenham’s top targets over recent weeks, with Antonio Conte thought to be keen on signing an elite right wing-back such as the Spaniard in January (The Athletic).
Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim said last week that Sporting will only let the 23-year-old leave in January if his €45m (£39.6m) release clause is met (The Metro).
However, The Daily Star claimed over the weekend that Tottenham Hotspur are close to completing the signing of Porro and that the North London club are expected to strike a £35m deal for the player by the end of the week.
This update has now been contradicted by Record, who state that the Spaniard is expected to remain at the Jose Alvalade Stadium until the summer.
The report suggests that Porro has been advised by new Spain boss Luis de la Fuente to remain in Portugal until next summer. Record also add that no European club is likely to meet the right-back’s release clause in January.
Spurs Web Opinion
It appears as if Tottenham would have to meet Porro’s release clause if they wish to snap him up this month. It will be interesting to see if Spurs turn their attention to other right-wing-back targets like Denzel Dumfries or end up paying up Porro’s clause to appease Conte.
