Tottenham Hotspur have cooled their interest in Pedro Porro due to Sporting CP’s insistence that they would have to meet his £40m (€45m) transfer release clause, according to Sky Sports.
The north Londoners are keen on the right wing-back, however, they are not prepared to advance any discussions while the Portuguese giants are insistent on recouping the fee within his contract.
The Daily Star had claimed on the last day in December that Tottenham were close to completing a deal for the Spanish international with a £35m switch having been expected by the end of the week.
Porro, who never played a single game for Pep Guardiola’s side while at Manchester City, impressed in both group stage matches against Tottenham in the Champions League earlier this season.

This is typical of Tottenham to walk away from a potential deal for the sake of £5million in a position which needs a significant upgrade. The likes of Chelsea are spending big and Arsenal’s investment in youth has paid dividends this season, while Spurs have work to do, however, are being restricted by the powers that be.
