AS have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have now opened talks with Sporting Lisbon regarding a deal for Pedro Porro.
The Athletic reported on Wednesday that one potential sticking point in Antonio Conte signing a new deal at Spurs is the right wing-back situation, with the Italian worrying that the club will fail to sign an elite player for that position for the third transfer window in a row.
The report suggested that Porro was Tottenham’s top target for the right wing-back role but there were some indications that he would be out of the Lilywhites’ price range.
However, AS have now claimed that Spurs are willing to push ahead with a move for the Sporting star to please Conte. The report alleges that the Italian sees the 23-year-old as being a perfect fit for his system but the negotiations between the two clubs are not expected to be straightforward.
AS state that Sporting do not want to let Porro leave in January, with the Spaniard’s release clause said to stand at €45m (£39.4m). The report adds that Tottenham could test the Portuguese club’s resolve by making an offer of around €25m-€30m (£21.9m-£26.3m).
Spurs Web Opinion
Given that Porro seems to be quite sought after among top European clubs ahead of January, I do not see Sporting selling him for anything short of his release clause, particularly given that his contract with the Portuguese club runs until 2025 (Transfermarkt).
