The print edition of A Bola (21/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) has explained that Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim is desperate for the club to keep hold of Pedro Porro amidst Tottenham’s interest in the right-back.
AS reported on Wednesday that Spurs had opened talks with Sporting regarding a deal for Pedro.
The report explained that the 23-year-old is Antonio Conte’s first choice target for the right wing-back role and that the Lilywhites are prepared to test the Portuguese club’s resolve by making an offer of around €25m-€30m (£21.9m-£26.3m) for the player.
A Bola have now also backed up the information about Spurs’ desire to sign Porro, stating that the North London club were ‘very impressed’ with the right-back during their Champions League clashes against Sporting this season.
The report backs Conte’s men to launch an ‘attack’ for the Spaniard when the transfer window opens in January.
However, it is explained that Porro is considered by Sporting to be one of the most valuable assets in their squad and the Portuguese club are prepared to fight to hold on to him.
A Bola add that Amorim ‘counts on the player’ and hopes that the club will ‘do everything’ to hold him. It is asserted that Sporting are set to demand over €30m (£26.3m) for Porro.
Spurs Web Opinion
The reported £26m fee seems quite reasonable for a player who is rumoured to be on the radar of several top clubs in Europe. I would expect Sporting to demand considerably more, particularly if they are as desperate to hold on to him as A Bola suggest.
