Andy Robertson seemed to aim a veiled jibe at Pedro Porro, accusing the Tottenham man and his Spain teammates of going down too easily during their Euro 2024 qualifier against Scotland.
Scotland pulled off a shocking upset against Spain in Glasgow on Tuesday, emerging 2-0 winners thanks to a brace from Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.
Porro was handed just his second start for Spain but the Tottenham man had an evening to forget as he slipped in the build-up to Scotland’s first goal.
The 23-year-old went down clutching his face when he was on the receiving end of the challenge from Robertson, much to the annoyance of the home crowd at Hamden Park, who subsequently jeered the Tottenham man every time he touched the ball.
Porro was hooked at half-time by Spain boss Luis de la Fuente, who brought on the experienced Dani Carvajal but he could not prevent La Roja from falling to a defeat.
Speaking after Scotland’s famous win, Robertson told Viaplay Sports: “I think they were going down a little bit easily. We were trying to say that.
“We were always going to try and be physical. We wanted to be in their faces. We wanted to win our headers and our challenges. I think we did that and I don’t think we crossed the line.
“But they were, especially in the first half, rolling about a wee bit. They used their experience and they got a couple of us booked, which is fair enough to them.
“But I think we did win that battle and I think we got under their skin a little bit, especially in the first half.
“Then, they made a couple of subs in the second half. Bringing on a bit more experience with Carvajal (for Porro), who doesn’t really get caught up in these things.”

The Scottish players made it a point to be in their counterpart’s faces and stop them from playing and the Spain players wanted to clearly bring that to the referee’s attention by milking every foul.
In the end, the Scotts were fully deserving of the three points.
