Alasdair Gold has said that everyone at Tottenham speaks very highly of Pedro Porro and backed the wide man to shine next campaign after a full pre-season under his belt.

Pedro Porro has not had it easy since arriving at Spurs in January as the club have gone through a tumultuous time, with Antonio Conte first departing before Cristian Stellini and the rest of the Italian’s coaching staff were also asked to pack their bags a few weeks later.

The teams struggled to pick up results and the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was understandably quite hostile on occasions, due to the discontent with the ownership.

Despite all this, Porro gave a relatively decent account of himself once he got used to the demands of the Premier League.

Although concerns remain about the defensive side of the game, the Spaniard demonstrated that he can be a potent threat going forward.

Gold revealed that those at Spurs have been impressed by the 23-year-old’s desire to work hard and improve his game.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast about Porro: “Everyone raves about him behind the scenes about his desire to work and improve and listen to what the coaches say and take it on board.

“We’re certainly seeing it, his crossing ability is fantastic and like you say, he’s getting used to the Premier League and then with a full pre-season under a new manager he could be a very useful player next season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

My one concern about Porro is that he might not have the defensive capabilities to play as a full-back in a back four and it now looks overwhelmingly likely that our next manager is going to set up with four at the back.

Postecoglou, for example, likes to play with underlapping full-backs and with the wingers staying out wide to stretch the opposition’s backline. I simply do not see how Porro would fit into that tactical setup.
