Ange Postecoglou has promised Tottenham fans that nothing will change in the club’s approach to the North London Derby this weekend.
In recent years, Spurs fans have become used to the team sitting back and soaking up pressure from Big Six rivals under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
However, the Postecoglou revolution has seen a switch in both tactics and mentality, with the Lilywhites now taking games to the opposition both home and away, including in the win over Manchester United earlier this season.
Postecoglou wants to take the game to Arsenal
When asked whether Spurs would change anything ahead of an away clash against Arsenal, Postecoglou insisted that his side would attempt to ‘scare the life out of’ their rivals.
Many have billed the North London Derby as Tottenham’s first real test under Postecoglou, while Arsenal will want to stay as close as possible to Man City in the supposed title race.
It appears we are at least in for an exciting derby match this weekend, as Tottenham look to end Arsenal’s unbeaten start, and vice versa.
Postecoglou told the recent Tottenham Fan Forum (via Standard Sport): “In terms of the way we play, we’re not changing, mate. We’ll go out and scare the life out of them.”
He added: “I’m well aware of obviously the [north London] rivalry and you take that into account because it means so much to supporters.
“Being Celtic manager, there really was only one result the supporters were interested in.
“Every time I opened my door, I could tell if the Amazon guy was a Rangers or Celtic supporter, depending on how he delivered the package! He either threw it at me or wanted a selfie! So you understand that.
“I love that, that’s the beauty of the game. It’s the passion it brings. People feel like their football club is an extension of their family and they want to protect that, want to make sure every week when they go into battle we come out victors, particularly against our rivals.
“It’s a big game, a great test for us as a group, particularly away from home. We’ve already had great challenges away from home. I’m excited by it, I’m looking forward to it. That’s why we do what we do.
“We want to be involved in big games, overcome the challenges before us. We’ll go there and play our football and see where that takes us.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I would always much rather see Tottenham go out there and try to win a game of football rather than sit back and gamble on one moment of magic or one breakaway. It’s the North London Derby, let’s take it to them and enjoy it!
