Luton Town manager, Nathan Jones has been impressed with the way in which Elliot Thorpe has adjusted to life in the Championship and says he is not surprised with the midfielder’s work ethic, coming from Tottenham.
Thorpe, 20, joined the Hatters on a free transfer at the end of last month after it became apparent that he would not be extending his contract in North London.
Spurs reportedly offered a fresh deal to the Wales U21 international, however, it was said the contract was snubbed in favour of searching for regular first-team football elsewhere.
There was alleged interest within the Premier League from the likes of Leicester City, Brentford and Burnley, however, complications regarding compensation to Spurs blocked any move from happening, allowing Luton to swoop in.
Although Thorpe has yet to make his debut for Luton in the Championship, he featured for the club’s U23 side against Bournemouth on Tuesday, and his performance caught the eye of Jones, who is already pleased with the midfielder’s progression.
Speaking to Luton Today, he said: “[Elliot] has settled quickly, trust me on that one. He’s been brought in as a young, hungry player who’s got good pedigree from Tottenham. We’re delighted to have him. He’s got something different from the others.
“I thought he was excellent on Tuesday. He’s confident alright, whether that’s on the pitch or off it, he’s as confident as you like – but you’d expect that coming from Tottenham.
“He’s a good kid. We’re delighted we’ve got him here. He’s settled quickly.”

Thorpe could well be one that got away for Spurs in the future, however, you can’t hold wanting regular senior football against him. He is evidently catching the eye of Luton’s managerial staff, and we can hope as a former player he keeps growing and progressing.
