CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has said that Japhet Tanganga is attracting interest from Luton Town, as well as Atalanta.
There was plenty of excitement surrounding Tanganga when he first broke into Tottenham’s senior side over three years ago but the defender’s development has completely stagnated due to a combination of injuries and a lack of game time.
Alasdair Gold revealed via Football.London two weeks ago that Ange Postecoglou is expected to oversee wholesale changes at centre-back this summer and that the 24-year-old could be one of the players sacrificed.
The centre-back’s agent, Roberto De Fanti claimed earlier this month to TuttoMercatoWeb that there is plenty of interest in his client across Europe.
He revealed that although Tanganga would prefer to remain in the Premier League, the defender would also be open to a switch to Serie A this summer.
Luton Town and Atalanta looking at Spurs’ Tanganga
Jacobs has now revealed that Atalanta are willing to offer the Spurs star a route to Italy while Luton have also expressed an interest in his services ahead of their debut Premier League campaign.
The journalist said on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel (starting at 46:58): “I know that there has been some interest [in Tanganga] in the Premier League from Luton Town in the player and whether or not he would be interested in that move remains to be seen.
“I also know that Atalanta have taken a look at the player too, so we certainly can’t rule out a possibility of an exit there.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I believe that Tanganga has all the raw materials to be a top centre-back and that he would be a good fit for Postecoglou’s system, given his one vs one defending, ability on the ball and recovery pace.
However, at this stage of his career, I would not be surprised if the 24-year-old feels that he would be better off with a fresh start away from Spurs.
