According to various articles released this morning, Tottenham are set to hi-jack Liverpool’s plans to sign teen phenomenon Ryan Sessegnon.
According to both Express Sport and the Sun, Spurs are ready to launch a £12 million bid for Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon, a teenager who’s emergence from the Fulham youth system into first team football has not gone unnoticed. The 17 year old’s form, having scored 5 goals from defence in his breakthrough season, has seen him likened to the Welsh Wizard, Gareth Bale, who also started out his career at left-back.
Liverpool had been reportedly determined to sign the youngster in the last few days, with other rumours hinting at interest from Manchester City. However, all of a sudden, it’s Tottenham who appear to be the leading party in the race for the England Under 19s wonderkid. Spurs have a slight edge in this potential transfer saga, as Sessegnon himself is on the brink of signing up with the same football agency as Harry Kane, as reported by both the aforementioned news outlets.
Express Sport though, reveals more, insisting that Sessegnon is stalling on signing a new deal at Craven Cottage, reportedly waiting to see who these transfer stories play out. Liverpool seem set to now miss out on the youngster’s signature, as they’re apparently pouring the bulk of their efforts into signing Monaco defender Benjamin Mendy, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
What do you think of this deal? Given his age, there is only his 2016/17 Fulham campaign to judge him on, though the signs are positive. Is this a smart move? Or is it too much money to pay for a 17 year old?
